#African swine fever: The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut confirms two more cases in wild boars in Brandenburg. One site is outside the endangered area, the other in the previous core area.
There are now 38 confirmed cases - all in wild boars.
Probably another entry of the animal disease from western Poland
The African swine fever virus ( ASF ) was found in a baby boy near the German-Polish border in Bleyen . The animal had been killed by a hunter who appeared to be healthy outwardly, but who then noticed and reported changes to the organs typical of an ASF infection.
The new case is around 60 kilometers from the previously affected districts in Brandenburg and, according to the information available, is not directly connected to them.
According to a preliminary assessment of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute is likely to re-introduction of the ASP from the affected regions in western Poland. There are thus two outbreaks in Brandenburg, the responsible authorities are initiating the appropriate measures (establishment of a buffer zone, endangered area, core area).
So far, a total of 38 cases of ASF have been found in wild boars in Brandenburg.
The Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) today confirms two more cases of African swine fever in wild boars in Brandenburg. In total, there are now 40 confirmed cases of ASF.
Status 01.10. 2020: Two new cases in the Spree-Neisse district
The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) informs that the suspicion of African swine fever ( ASF ) has been confirmed in two other wild boars in Brandenburg . The national reference laboratory - the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut - detected the animal disease in the corresponding samples today. Both sites are within the first core area.
Further cases of African Swine Fever have been detected in the federal state of Brandenburg:
By 2 October the Friedrich Loeffler Institute had confirmed 46 cases – all of them in wild boar. In 45 cases the place of discovery was in the current core area. The place of discovery of a case confirmed on 30 September was in the district of M?rkisch-Oderland, only a few kilometres away from the German-Polish border, and hence outside the previously defined zone at risk. The state of Brandenburg now has to adapt the existing restricted zones and protective measures to prevent the further spread of the disease. Domestic pig herds in Germany are still free of African Swine Fever.
