6,998 Swine's tails on Timor Island in East Nusa Tenggara are attacked by ASF virus or swine flu
        Wednesday, April 29, 2020 10:44

SERAMBINEWS.COM - A total of 6,998 pigs belonging to the community on the island of Timor, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), have been killed by the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus or African swine flu.

"The ASF virus is still attacking pigs belonging to residents, especially Timor Island.

We have recorded up to 6,998 cases of death so far, "NTT Provincial Animal Husbandry Department Head Dani Suhadi told reporters in Kupang, quoted from Antara on Tuesday (4/28/2020).

He explained, the number of dead pigs increased from before in mid-March around 4,800 tails.

According to Dani, the ASF virus attack that caused thousands of pigs to die occurred in all areas on the island of Timor.

"This death case not only struck pigs belonging to residents, but also at a government-owned nursery center," he said.

The case of the death of these pigs caused unrest for the community or breeders because it made them lose a source of income.

To that end, the NTT provincial government together with the NTT DPRD have discussed efforts to address the economic impacts associated with the ASF virus attack.

"We have discussed it with the council. So there is a budget reallocation that is done and it is hoped that it will not come out of the effort to handle the families of farmers affected by ASF, "he said.

Dani added, this budget reallocation was also integrated with assistance for family farmers affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Hundreds of Pigs in Klungkung Dead, Distan Call Not Too Significant (Bali)
          30 April 2020, 01: 15: 59 WIB | Editor: Ali Mustofa

SEMARAPURA - A total of 418 pigs in Klungkung Regency have died since February - April.

Although the number of dead pigs reaches hundreds, but according to the Head of the Agriculture Office of Klungkung, Ida Bagus Gede Juanida the number is not too much.

Unfortunately it is not certain whether the death of hundreds of pigs was infected with the African Swine Fever virus (ASF) or not.

Head of the Klungkung Agriculture Office, Ida Bagus Gede Juanida, explained that the pig population from February to April was 881.

In February, there were 74 pig populations, 464 in March, 503 pigs in April.

While the number of pigs that died as many as 418 tails with details of 5 February, March as many as 186 tails, and April as many as 227 tails.

"Of the total pigs that died, as many as 389 farmers' reports were not seen directly. The meaning is reported but has been buried.

And, only 29 tails were seen directly. What is clear is that the clinical direction of ASF is seen firsthand, "he explained.

Although the number of swine deaths reached hundreds and is increasing every month, according to Juanida, the number is still within reasonable limits.

Given the number of pig deaths that reach hundreds of tails it is an accumulation of the number of daily pig deaths.

"When viewed from the side of the number, actually not too significantly increased. "Anyway, not all lead to ASF," he explained.

Regarding the certainty of the death of hundreds of pigs, he claimed to have sent samples of pigs that died and led to ASF virus infection for examination.

It's just that the results haven't come out yet. So it is uncertain whether a pig in Klungkung Regency has died due to ASF infection.

"Because the ASF virus has no vaccine, there is no change in the care procedures for pigs that we socialize

to breeders. We still emphasize the cleanliness and health of the cage, feed and the pigs themselves, "he explained.

In connection with the current price of pigs is quite cheap. According to him, it was not due to the ASF virus.

However, more on the decline in people's purchasing power due to their business or income decreased affected by the spread of the corona virus. "In my opinion more to the decline in people's purchasing power," he said.

ASF Virus 'Kills' 3,030 Pig Tails in TTS, Billy Said Farmers Big Loss Reaches Rp. 9 Billion
            Monday, June 22, 2020 07:00

Report from Pos Kupang Reporter, Com, Dion City

POS KUPANG, COML SOE - Attack the African Swine Fever virus (ASF0 which has hit TTS District since February) killing 3030 pigs in the area.

If valued at Rp 3 million per tail, the loss of local farmers reaches more than Rp 9 billion.

Head of TTS Animal Husbandry Department, drh. Benyamin Billy, in his office, Friday (6/19), acknowledged that up to now the number of pigs that died as a result of the ASF attack on the local livestock service reached 3030. The number of cases, he admitted, excludes cases of pig deaths that were not reported to the office.

"If it is recorded in the service there are 3030 heads that died, but I am sure that the real number in the field is more than that number. There are still many cases of pig deaths that are not reported to the public service," said Benjamin.

Is the current number of swine deaths due to ASF still high, Benyamin claimed to have dropped dramatically. If previously in a day the case of pig death could reach hundreds of head, now down to one or two a day.

Benjamin said the reduction in swine mortality due to ASF is closely related to social restrictions as a result of the corona virus. Limited human and livestock mobilization not only prevents the spread of the corona virus but also prevents the spread of the ASF virus.

"Social restrictions are one of the factors pressing the number of cases of swine deaths due to ASF in TTS," he explained.

When asked about the rare anticipation to prevent the re-eruption of pig deaths due to ASF, Benjamin asked the breeders to keep the cage clean, sanitary and animal feed. Animal mobilization between districts must be controlled to prevent the entry of pigs infected with ASF virus into TTS.

"Until now the ASF vaccine has not been found. Therefore, to prevent the spread of ASF virus, farmers must maintain cleanliness of the cage, sanitation, as well as animal feed," he added. *

Thousands of Pigs Dead, NTT Animal Husbandry Service Sets One Standby
                Fabiola Febrinastri
                Thursday, July 16, 2020 | 10:43 WIB

Suara.com - The Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), through its animal husbandry service, has set one on alert, after nearly three thousand pigs in five districts have died, as a result of being suspected of being infected by the African Swine Fever Virus (ASF). The five districts are Belu, Malacca, North Central Timor, South Central Timor, Kupang District and Kupang City.

Only Flores has not been infected, so anticipatory measures are needed to control and break the distribution chain.

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) moves quickly by deploying the investigation team since Friday (07/11/2020). The team is tasked with supervising and monitoring the ASF Virus case.

"We are directly involved in monitoring in order to take quick and strategic steps to deal with this outbreak," said Inspector IV, Inspectorate General, Ministry of Agriculture, drh. IGMN Kuswandana, Chairman of the ASF Investigation Team, during the adiensi with the NTT governor, regent and the Agriculture Office of Sikka district, Kupang through his written statement on Tuesday (07/14/2020).

According to Made, this is in line with the direction of the Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo so that the case of the malignant virus in pigs can be immediately dealt with, because it can harm farmers.

The ASF virus does not yet have a vaccine, and causes death with mortality and morbidity rates of up to 100 percent.

Meanwhile, Head of Animal Quarantine and Animal Safety Center, Agricultural Quarantine Agency (Barantan), drh. Agus Sunanto, who was also present and a member of the team, said that the State of Timor Leste, which is on the same land as NTT, had reported the ASF Virus outbreak in its region first.

"With the geographical location on one land, then NTT has the potential and rapid opportunities in transmission, as is currently the case in five districts," Agus said.

"Not to mention coupled with a general pig raising system that is still released, a biosecurity system that is not yet strong and various smuggling efforts in the commodity of pigs and their products are still happening," Agus said.

He added, his party through the working area in NTT, namely the Kupang Agricultural Quarantine and Ende had carried out optimization of supervision at various entry gates such as airports, ports and cross-border posts and would continue to be improved.

Information dissemination and outreach to the community have also been carried out and continue to be made part of the monitoring and control effort. Collaboration with the agriculture office and related parties will also be increased.

"We suppress the number of pigs infected by the virus at the scene, at the same time we break the chain of distribution in 17 districts that are still free," said Agus.

At the same time, the ASF Investigation Team of the Ministry of Agriculture also headed to Sikka District, where livestock deaths occurred as well as to conduct monitoring and outreach.

Also present was the Director of Veterinary Public Health, Director General of Animal Husbandry and Health, drh. Fadjar Sumping Tjatur Rasa, which provides assistance in various biosecurity tools such as sprayers and disinfectants. While the team from Balitbangtan, consisting of IRCVS, BBVet Denpasar, plus veterinary medical officials and veterinary paramedics from the Ende Agricultural Quarantine, jumped in directly to take samples directly to the houses of residents who have pig livestock.

Even though this disease is not zoonotic in nature, the impact is quite significant for farmers, then the supervision of agricultural quarantine needs to be strengthened by the threat of criminal action for those who violate quarantine regulations.

"It needs to give a deterrent effect so that no more people try to violate and the parties are more serious in strengthening the prevention of ASF to NTT," concluded Made.

MAUMERE - From February 2020 to July 14, 2020 there have been 460 pigs reportedly dead with the Hog Cholera and African Swine Fever (ASF) viruses in Sikka Regency of East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) and causing billions of rupiah in losses.

For the month of July alone, up to July 14, there were 135 dead and the real number was definitely more, because many owners did not report it to the Sikka District Agriculture Office (Distan).

"In July alone until the 14th of yesterday, 135 dead pigs were recorded. the number of dead is definitely far more because there are farmers and owners who have not reported it to our office, "said the Head of the Agriculture Office of Sikka Regency, NTT, Mauritz da Cunha, Friday (07/17/2020).

According to Mauritz, in February, the number of pigs reportedly killed was 21, March 15, April 6, May 64 and in June increased dramatically to 226 and by mid-July there were 135.

That way he said, the number who died of this virus had become 460 tails. The biggest cause he said, the owner consumes sick pork which is given or bought from another party and then the waste is given to his pigs.

"We have mobilized 160 Field Extension Officers (PPL) to go to 147 villages and 13 villages in Sikka Regency to conduct socialization related to ASF prevention and control measures," he said.

While in the village or village, said Mauritz, the PPL will make people aware not to trade in sick and dead pigs and are prohibited from consuming and distributing and or selling sick and dead pork to neighbors or others.

Head of Ende Regency Agriculture Office, Ir. Marianus Alexander

POS-KUPANG.COM | ENDE - The high data on pig mortality in Ende District, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT Province) was apparently caused by the African Swine Fever Virus (ASF) or African swine fever.

Examination of 24 samples at the BBVet Denpasar Laboratory, 17 of them were confirmed positive for ASF.

This was conveyed by the Head of the District Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Office, Marianus Alexander, to POS-KUPANG.COM, Friday (21/8/2020).

Marianus confirmed there is no vaccine for the ASF virus. Therefore, the public must really implement bio security to break the chain of ASF virus spread. "Must strengthen bio security," he said.

He said, the number of pigs that have died to date has reached more than 2,000. However, according to him, recently the number of pig deaths has decreased. "The number of dead has been counted since May 2020," he said.

The Agriculture and Livestock Service Office itself, he said, continues to make efforts to communicate, inform and educate the public and breeders to prevent an increase in cases of pig mortality.

Technically, he continued, through officers in each Poskeswan sub-district, they continued to provide assistance and socialization to reduce the mortality rate of pigs. "The result is a decrease or increase in pig mortality which is slow at this time," he said.

He explained the most important thing that must be maintained by both breeders and the general public is to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the pen so that pigs are not susceptible to viruses.

"Generally, clinical symptoms that occur in pigs have fever, refuse to eat, high heat, and usually there is discharge from the rectum and foaming at the mouth," he said.

He said that the Department of Agriculture and Livestock has taken steps to tackle the death of pigs, since February 2020 through an instruction from the Regent of Ende to stop the entry and exit of pigs and their processed products.

"It's not only now that since February there has been an instruction from the Regent to prohibit the entry and exit of pigs, processed pork between regions, between cities, between districts and even between villages," he said. ASF Case in Mabar, PKH Service Urges Breeders to Follow Officer Instructions
                        Monday, 16 November 2020 06:07 POS-KUPANG.COM |

LABUAN BAJO - African Swine Fever (ASF) virus or African swine fever has spread in West Manggarai Regency (Mabar), Sunday (15/11/2020). This infectious viral disease that attacks pigs can cause up to 100 percent mortality in domesticated pigs, it can also infect more resistant wild pigs and can become a reservoir for viruses. In Mabar Regency, it was recorded that more than 600 pigs were affected by ASF with the most cases in Lembor District. Head of PKH Mabar Regency, drh. Theresia P. Asmon appealed to the public, especially pig breeders, not to panic and to always follow the directions from the government to prevent ASF transmission. "If it is positive, the number can increase and decrease depending on all of us, because there is no medicine and vaccine. Panic does not help, it can be used by certain individuals to influence people to sell their healthy pigs at a much cheaper price," he said. The PKH Office of Mabar Regency, he continued, had been very concerned about ASF not entering the Mabar Regency area. His party asked officials up to the village level as well as village heads to immediately report if there was a sudden death of pigs. Furthermore, the pigs must be buried, not thrown away or even sold, even though livestock infected with ASF is safe for consumption because they do not have the potential to transmit disease from animals to humans (zoonoses). "Because the case in Lembor was sick and died, but they were not buried. Eventually they were infected everywhere, because they were afraid of loss, they were eventually sold everywhere. That is what makes fires everywhere nowadays," he explained. This article has been Author: Gecio Viana Editor: Rosalina Woso
