    Swine fever kills over 50 pigs in Mbarara

    More than 50 pigs in Mbarara municipality have succumbed to the African swine fever, the district veterinary officer has confirmed.

    Dr Moses Amanyire, said on Wednesday that the pigs started dying in January this year but farmers didn?t report immediately because they were ignorant about the disease.

    ?In March, the team of veterinary officers started investigating the death of the pigs only to discover they had succumbed to African swine fever,? he said.

    Dr Amanyire said that the most affected farmers are from Nyamitanga and Nyakayoojo divisions in Mbarara municipality.

    He cautioned farmers in the area to take extra care while feeding and handling pigs so that they don?t get infected in the process...

    Suspected African swine fever outbreak reported in Rubanda

    Rubanda, Uganda | URN | Suspected African Swine Fever outbreak has been reported in Rubanda district. The disease has been reported in Nyamweru, Hamurwa and Bubaare sub-counties.

    According to Joanita Kobugabe, Rubanda District Information Officer, about 53 pigs have died in Igomanda parish, Nyamwweru Sub County last weekend.

    Cosma Twesigwome, Rubanda District Agriculture Officer says that many pigs in the affected sub-counties have been observed with African swine fever-like symptoms...

      African Swine Fever outbreak confirmed in Kabale

      Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A quarantine on the movement of pigs and its products has been imposed in Kabale district after the confirmed outbreak of the African swine fever.

      Last week, over 70 pigs died of a strange disease which forced the district authorities to send samples to the National Animal Disease Diagnostics and Epidemiology Centre in Entebbe.

      Bernard Kabagame, the Kabale District Veterinary Officer says that the samples which were returned on Tuesday tested positive to African swine fever.

      Kabagambe says that farmers are required to bury all the pigs that have died from ASF disease since it has no cure...

        Swine fever hits Kasese

        Farmers in Kasese Municipality have started counting losses following an outbreak of the African swine fever in the district that has claimed a number of pigs.

        The disease has so far claimed 26 pigs from the areas of Kilembe, Namhuga and Nyakabingo III wards and at least five farmers have lost their pigs to the viral disease within one week...
