An investigation is underway into the sudden death of four horses over the past fortnight at a property near Margaret River.
The Department of Food and Agriculture has confirmed it is helping investigate why four horses died in less than six days on a large horse farm on the town?s outskirts.
DAFWA has stressed there is no evidence to suggest the deaths were caused by the deadly Hendra virus.

Veterinarians say they are baffled as to what caused the death of four horses on a property in WA's south-west.

"Some of those signs are quite consistent with a snake bite so they're the type of signs that a horse owner would be making contact with their vet very rapidly anyway."

Both botulism and scrub tick infestations are known to cause progressive muscular paralysis, as was seen with these horses, and it is often difficult to differentiate between the two conditions....
