Owners urged to vaccinate dogs

A series of outbreaks of the virulent dog disease parvo-virus throughout regional New Zealand has prompted veterinarians to advise dog owners to urgently check their dogs' vaccination history.
Most farm dogs are vaccinated against the virus and with it, distemper and hepatitis viruses.
Manawatu veterinarian business Totally Vets said it had dog preventative health programmes, including annual vaccinations and worm treatments at appropriate times throughout the year, which many dogs were enrolled in.
A working dog could be worth several thousand dollars to a farmer.
