A series of outbreaks of the virulent dog disease parvo-virus throughout regional New Zealand has prompted veterinarians to advise dog owners to urgently check their dogs' vaccination history.

Most farm dogs are vaccinated against the virus and with it, distemper and hepatitis viruses.

A working dog could be worth several thousand dollars to a farmer.
