Madison County bull infected with brucellosis; not likely to impact state?s status

<!-- AP Byline -->CARLY FLANDRO, Chronicle Staff Writer The Bozeman Daily Chronicle | <!-- AP Content -->

A bull from a Madison County ranch has tested positive for brucellosis disease, but the discovery isn?t likely to impact the state?s brucellosis status.

According to the Montana Department of Livestock, the bull has been placed under quarantine, and all other animals on the ranch tested negative for the disease, which can cause pregnant females to miscarry.

In the state?s recent brucellosis incidents, elk ? rather than cattle or bison ? were found to be the likely source of the infection. It hasn?t yet been determined how the Madison County bull became infected.
