LOME, April 8 (Xinhua) - Togo launched a program on Wednesday to help the most vulnerable populations to cope with the difficulties linked to the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

Known as "Novissi", a term which means "mutual aid" in the local Ewe language, the initiative essentially aims to support the social strata most affected by the restrictive measures taken by the government to halt the progression of the disease.

On April 1, Togolese President Faure Gnassingb? announced the next implementation of this program in a message to the nation, when he declared a three-month state of health emergency accompanied by socio-economic measures as part of the country's provisions to contain the pandemic.

Thanks to the mobile money transfer program, which has existed since 2019, the beneficiaries will receive aid each month in an amount defined according to certain specific criteria, while motorcycle-taxi drivers will receive specially 20,000 CFA francs (33, 18 dollars).

As a reminder, Togo had 65 confirmed cases on Tuesday, including 39 cases under treatment, 23 people healed and three deaths.

On March 6, the index case was recorded on a 42-year-old Togolese woman who returned to the country via Benin after successive stays in Germany, France and Turkey between February 22 and March 2
