The essential services will include shops selling necessary commodities like groceries, food products among others. (Gerard Larose, Seychelles Tourism Board)

(Seychelles News Agency) - Seychelles on Wednesday at midnight will shut down non-essential services and restrict the movements of people for 21 days to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a top health official said on Tuesday.

The new strict measures -- in line with prevention efforts seen around the world -- came after a 26-year-old Seychellois man who works as a ground handling staff at Seychelles' international airport tested positive for the virus on Monday, bringing the nation's total cases to 11.

"The fact that he has been circulating in the population when he developed symptoms it is possible that other people have been exposed and will test positive as of today. ... It is for this reason that new measures will be announced and this will start with a restriction on people's movement," Jude Gedeon, the Public Health Commissioner, told a press conference...

As part of the safety measures being imposed by the destination, it will be compulsory for all visitors entering the Seychelles to take a Covid-19 test 48 hours prior to disembarking on the Pointe Larue International Airport. A health fee of fifty dollars will have to be incurred on grounds to cover further local health procedures imposed by the Public Health Authority as part of the new requirements.

At its last review on the May 28, 2020, the Seychelles Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) identified a number of countries as low risk. In conducting its review, PHEOC considered the following criteria:
                      • Magnitude of transmission
                      • Trend in outbreak
                      • Low incidence of cases

Coronavirus - Seychelles: New COVID-19 cases detected on board Spanish fishing vessel

The positive crew members are all well, without any symptoms of the infection and are in isolation on the respective vessels
                          VICTORIA, Seychelles, July 7, 2020/APO Group/ --

10 new positive cases of COVID-19 were detected on board two of the Spanish fishing vessels during a scheduled assessment of the fleet by the Public Health Authority on Sunday 5th July 2020.

The assessment is setup as a routine to verify the status of the manners who have been in contact with other seafarers who tested positive for the virus.

The positive crew members are all well, without any symptoms of the infection and are in isolation on the respective vessels.

Initial tests on board the two ships revealed 6 cases of COVID-19. Of these 6 crew members, 4 have now tested negative for the virus, while 2 are still positive.

The number of positive COVID-19 on board all the vessels totals 80.
With the eleven original cases identified before May, this further 80 cases would bring the total to 91 by my reckoning.
