    A. General Context
    On 3 May 2012, an outbreak of cholera was reported in Chiredzi district.
    Since 10 October 2011, an outbreak of typhoid fever has been reported in Harare City. The disease spread to other provinces.
    Since week 15 malaria weekly cases reported have been declining.
    No typhoid fever case reported.
    No reports of influenza A and measles outbreaks countrywide.

    B. Epidemic prone diseases
    Cholera outbreak
    On 3 May 2012, Chiredzi district reported an outbreak of cholera. As of 1 July 2012, a total of 22 cases including 1 death (CRF= 4.54%) were reported of which 11 were found positive by laboratory test. One cholera death was reported from Old Boli Clinic on the 19th of June 2012.

    Typhoid outbreak
    Since 10 October 2011, Harare City has been experiencing an outbreak of typhoid fever. The disease also spread to Chitungwiza City, Mashonaland Central (Bindura district), Mashonaland West (Zvimba and Chegutu districts), Midlands (Chirumanzu district) and Mashonaland East (Marondera) Provinces. This week no case was reported. As of 1 July 2012, a total of 4782 cases and 2 deaths (CFR= 0.04%) have been reported. The typhoid fever epidemic curve is shown in Figure 1.

    Anthrax
    This week, one anthrax case was reported from Buhera district in Midlands Province. Since the beginning of 2012, a total of 20 anthrax human cases have been reported.

    Malaria
    In week 26, a total of 5888 malaria cases and no deaths were reported. Since the beginning of 2012, 228 692 cases and 170 deaths (CFR= 0.07%) have been reported through the weekly surveillance system. Table 3 shows the 10 most affected districts.

        One confirmed case of Meningococcal Meningitis was reported this week. The case was reported from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. The cumulative figure for meningococcal meningitis is 3.

          In week 30, a total of 4480 malaria cases and one death were reported. Since the beginning of 2012, 248 016cases and 173 deaths (CFR= 0.07%) have been reported through the weekly surveillance system. Table 3 shows the 10 most affected districts.

          Meningococcal Meningitis
          One confirmed case of Meningococcal Meningitis was reported this week. from Mpilo Central Hospital The cumulative figure for meningococcal meningitis is 4.

            This week 25 cases were reported: 21 from Chitungwiza, 2 from Bindura and 2 from Bulawayo. Both the Bulawayo cases were laboratory confirmed. As of 5 August 2012, the national cumulative number of cases was 4986 and 2 deaths (CFR= 0.04%). The typhoid fever epidemic curve is shown in Figure 1.

              Influenza
              A total of 9 925 influenza cases and one death were reported this week. The death was reported from Sanyati District in Mashonaland West Province. The cumulative figure for influenza is 216 212 and one death. Surveillance for clinical influenza cases is heightened yearly between May and September. None of the cases are laboratory proven.

                A. General Context
                The typhoid outbreak in Chitungwiza continues since it was first reported on 16 June 2012. Harare still reports some cases from 10 October 2011 when an outbreak of typhoid was initially reported. The disease has also been reported in other provinces.
                There were no reports of cholera, influenza A and measles outbreaks countrywide.

                B. Epidemic prone diseases
                Cholera
                No suspected cases of cholera were reported this week. The cumulative figure for cholera, from 2 May to 19 June 2012, is 22 cases (11 confirmed cases, 11 suspected cases) and 1 death. This outbreak was declared over on 20 June 2012.

                Typhoid outbreak
                Four new suspected typhoid cases were reported in Chitungwiza this week. The cumulative number of cases as of 2 October stands at 367 with one death. Nationally the cumulative figure for typhoid is 4 916 suspected cases, 80 confirmed cases and 2 deaths (CFR 0.04%) since October 2011.

                Anthrax
                This week, no anthrax cases were reported. Since the beginning of 2012, a total of 36 human human cases have been reported.

                Dysentery
                Clinical dysentery cases reported this week are 1,067 and no deaths. Of the reported cases 282 (26.4%) were from the under five years of age.
                The provinces which reported the highest number of dysentery cases were Manicaland (183) and Mashonaland Central (174). The cumulative figure for dysentery is 28,150 and 19 deaths (CFR 0.07%).

                Measles
                A total of 4 suspected cases of measles were reported this week through the Weekly Disease Surveillance System. The cumulative figure for suspected measles is 282 and no death.

                Malaria
                A total of 4 272 malaria cases and 1 death(CFR 0.02%) were reported this week. Of the cases reported 792(18.5%) and no death were from the under five years of age. The death was reported from Sanyati district. The provinces which reported the highest number of malaria cases were Manicaland (1 552) and Mashonaland West (969). The cumulative figure
                for malaria is 274 693 and 182 deaths (CFR 0.07%).
