    Diseases of public health importance Acute respiratory infections (ARI), bloody diarrhoea (BD), clinical malaria (MAL), remained the leading causes of morbidity. In addition, 9 cases of suspected meningitis were reported from West Darfur, 2 cases from North Darfur while there were no cases in South Darfur during the reporting week. There were 8 deaths notified through the EWARS system, from West Darfur.

    Dengue fever in Red Sea state
    In 2010, the total number of suspected cases of dengue fever (DF) has reached 3 754 including 12 deaths (CFR 0.33%). Reduction in number of reported cases is clearly noted in recent weeks following intensive vector control and health education efforts.

    Meningitis situation in northern states
    In 2010, a total of 1 319 suspected cases of meningitis including 77 deaths (CFR: 5.8%) were reported from north Sudan. The total number of suspected cases of meningitis reported from Greater Darfur has reached 1 013 with 48 deaths (CFR 4.7%). More than 400 000 people have been vaccinated against meningitis in 2010.

    Diarrhoeal disease in northern states
    Since April 2010, the total number of suspected cases of acute diarrhea has reached 20 488 with 6 deaths (CFR 0.03%). The number of cases has returned to normal/baseline levels.
