    1. Updates on poliomyelitis for week 17 as at April 24th 2015

    1.1. No Wild Polio Virus (WPV) was isolated in both weeks 17 of 2015 & 2014.
    1.2. Between weeks 1 & 17, 2015 no WPVs was isolated compared to 1 WPV isolated from Gaya
    LGA in Kano State at the same period in 2014 (Figure 1).
    1.3. No circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Virus type 2 (cVDPV2) was isolated in week 17 of both
    2015 and 2014.
    1.4. Between weeks 1 & 17, 2015 no cVDPV2 was isolated while only two (2) cVDPV2 were
    isolated at the same period in 2014 (Figure 2).

    1.5. Six (6) confirmed WPV were isolated in 2014.

    2. Update on suspected Cholera for week 17 as at 1 st May, 2015

    2.1. Outbreaks of Cholera are on-going in some States across the country. So far in 2015, 13 States
    have reported outbreak of Cholera between weeks 1 & 17 (Figure 5).
    2.2. In reporting week (Week 17, 2015), 11 cases of cholera and 2 deaths (CFR, 18.18%) (Figure 6)
    were recorded from 2 LGAs (2 States) compared with 1155 suspected cases and 23 deaths (CFR,
    1.99%) from 26 LGAs (5 States) at the same period in 2014.
    2.3. Between weeks 1 and 17 (2015), 1992 suspected cholera cases with 7 lab-confirmed and 94
    deaths (CFR, 4.72%) from 36 LGAs (13 States) were reported compared with 18,421 cases with
    91 lab-confirmed and 235 deaths (CFR, 1.28%) from 83 LGAs (14 States & FCT) at the same
    period in 2014

    3. Lassa fever update for week 17 as at 1st May, 2015

    3.1. No Lassa fever case was reported in both weeks 17 of 2015 and 2014.
    3.2. Between weeks 1 and 17 2015, 87 Lassa fever cases with 6 lab-confirmed and 3 death (CFR,
    3.44%) from 15 LGAs (9 States) were reported compared with 419 cases with 52 lab-confirmed
    and 24 deaths (CFR, 5.73%) from 25 LGAs (11 States) at the same period in 2014 (Figure 9 &
    10).

    3.3. Outbreaks were investigated by the State MOH and FMOH and are under control.

    4. Update on cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) for week 17 as at 1st May, 2015

    4.1. In the reporting week 17 (2015), eighty (80) suspected cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) cases
    and 2 deaths (CFR, 6.25%) were reported from 18 LGAs (11 States) compared with 101 cases
    and 3 deaths (CFR, 2.97%) from 13 LGAs (5 States) at the same period in 2014.
    4.2. Kebbi and Sokoto States accounted for 76.3% (61/80) of the new cases recorded in the reporting
    week 17.
    4.3. Between weeks 1 & 17, 2015, 1922 CSM cases and 94 deaths (CFR,4.89%) were recorded from
    93 LGAs (19 States & FCT) compared with 1010 cases with 73 lab. Confirmed and 79 deaths
    (CFR, 8.36%) from 102 LGAs (24 States) at the same period in 2014 (Figure 9).

    4.4. Between weeks 1 & 52, 2014, 1175 CSM cases with 73 lab-confirmed and 81 deaths (CFR,
    6.89%) were recorded from 125 LGAs (26 States and FCT) compared with 871 cases with 47
    deaths (CFR, 5.40%) from 132 LGAs (27 States and FCT) at the same period in 2013 (Figure 10).

    5. Update on suspected Measles for week 17 as at 1st May, 2015

    5.1. In week 17 2015, 905 suspected cases and 2 deaths (CFR, 0.22%) of measles were recorded
    from 30 States compared with 399 suspected measles cases and 0 death from 25 States at the
    same period in 2014 (Figure 11).
    5.2. So far, 7476 suspected cases and 12 deaths (CFR,0.16%) have been reported in 2015 from 36
    states & FCT compared with 9749 cases and 57 deaths (CFR, 0.58%) from 36 states & FCT at
    the same period in 2014.

    5.3. Between weeks 1 & 52 (2014), 15,989 suspected measles cases with 85 deaths (CFR, 0.53%)
    were reported from 36 States and FCT compared with 57,892 cases with 348 deaths (CFR,
    0.60%) same coverage and at the same period in 2013.
    5.4. Confirmed Measles cases (lab, epi-link and clinical) between weeks 1 and 17 (2015) were 1288
    cases (Figure 12).
    5.5. Most affected children are within the age group 9 - 59 months (≥1288 confirmed cases &
    68.2%; Figure 13 & 14 respectively).
    5.6. Vaccination status of measles cases is 79% zero dose (Figure 15).

    UPDATE ON METHANOL POISONING IN ONDO STATE as at 1st May 2015
     Situation is under control. There is no new case reported
     Two communities were affected namely Ode-irele and Otigbo
     In Ode-irele community, 29 persons were affected with 21 deaths and 8 alive
     In Otigbo community, 4 persons were affected with 2 deaths and 2 alive
     A total of 33 persons were affected with 23 deaths and 10 alive.
     Two (2) out of the ten (10) alive have regained their sight.
     Analysis of the suspected local gin by NAFDAC reviewed high concentration of
    Methanol.
     The Ondo State government has therefore banned local gin production in the
    State.

    6. Update on Guinea worm disease: as at 31st January, 2015
    6.1. As at 31st January, 2015, 17 GWD rumour reports were received from 14 LGAs in 5 States. All
    the rumours were investigated within 24 hours and none of these rumours were confirmed to be
    GWD case.
    6.2. In 2014, a total of 294 GWD rumour reports were received and investigated from 120 LGAs (25
    States), of which 283 (96.2%) were investigated within 24 hours. None of these rumours were
    confirmed to be GWD case.
    6.3. Nigeria has celebrated 6 consecutive years of zero reporting of Guinea worm disease in the
    country. The Country has been officially certified free of Dracunculiasis transmission by
    the International Commission for the Certification of Dracunculiasis Eradication
    (ICCDE).

    7. Update on National Influenza Sentinel Surveillance, Nigeria week 1 - 15, 2015
    7.1 From weeks 1 - 15, a total of 225 cases were recruited of which 197 were Influenza like illness
    (ILI) and 28 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection(SARI).
    7.2 Out of 225 samples received 193 were processed. Of the processed samples, 166(86.0%) were
    ILI cases, 27(14.0%) were Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).
    7.3 Of the 166 processed ILI samples, 6(3.6%) were positive for Influenza A and 9(5.4%) positive
    for Influenza B. Of the 27 processed SARI samples, 1(3.7%) was positive for Influenza A
    while 3(11.1%) were positive for Influenza B.
    7.4 15(7.8%) of the processed 193 samples were positive for Influenza, with 6(40.0%) of these
    were positive for Influenza A and 9(60.0%) positive for Influenza B. The subtypes A (2009)
    H1N1, seasonal H3, seasonal H1and A/H5 account for 1 (6.7%), 0 (0.0%), 0(0.0%) and 0
    (0.0%) of the total influenza A positive samples respectively. A/not sub typed and Un-sub
    typeable account for 5 (33.3%), 0(0.0%) of the total positive influenza A samples respectively.

    7.5 The percentage influenza positive was highest (18.7%) in week 13.
    7.6 In the reporting week 15, 15 sample received but are yet to be processed.

    1. Updates on poliomyelitis for week 39 as at September 25th 2015
    1.1. No Wild Polio Virus (WPV) was isolated in week 39 of both 2015 and 2014.
    1.2. Between weeks 1 & 39, 2015 no WPVs was isolated compared to 6 WPV isolated in two (2)
    States at the same period in 2014 (Figure 1).

    1.4. Between weeks 1 & 39, 2015 one (1) cVDPV2 was isolated in FCT while twenty-three (23)

    2. Update on suspected Cholera for week 39 as at 2nd
    October, 2015
    2.1. Outbreaks of Cholera are on-going in some States across the country. So far in 2015, 18 States & FCT have reported outbreak of Cholera between weeks 1 & 39 (Figure 5).
    2.2. In reporting week (Week 39, 2015), 31 suspected cholera cases with 1 Lab-confirmed (Figure 6) were recorded from 5 LGAs (3 States) compared with 241 suspected cases and 3 deaths (CFR, 1.25%) from 26 LGAs (6 States) at the same period in 2014.
    2.3. Between weeks 1 and 39 (2015), 3876 suspected cholera cases with 18 lab-confirmed and 159 deaths (CFR, 4.10%) from 82 LGAs (18 States & FCT) were reported compared with 33,295 cases with 220 lab-confirmed and 637 deaths (CFR, 1.91%) from 165 LGAs (18 States & FCT) at the same period in 2014 (Figure 7 & 8)

    3. Lassa fever update for week 39 as at 2nd October, 2015
    3.1. No Lassa fever was reported in week 39, 2015 compared with 1 suspected cases from Lafia LGA
    (Nasarawa State) at same period in 2014.
    3.2. Between weeks 1 and 39 2015, 227 Lassa fever cases with 11 lab-confirmed and 6 deaths (CFR,
    2.64%) from 21 LGAs (10 States & FCT) were reported
    compared with 916 cases with 93 labconfirmed
    and 31deaths (CFR, 3.38%) from 30 LGAs (12 States) at the same period in 2014 (Figure
    9 & 10).

    4. Update on cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) for week 39 as at 2nd October, 2015
    4.1 In the reporting week 39 (2015), two (2) suspected cases of cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) were
    recorded from 2 LGAs (FCT) compared with 3 cases from 2 LGAs (2 States) at the same period in
    2014.
    4.2 Between weeks 1 & 39 (2015), 2655 CSM cases with 43 Lab confirmed and 130 deaths (CFR,4.90%)
    were recorded from 158 LGAs (27 States & FCT)
    compared with 1107 cases with 73 lab. Confirmed
    and 79 deaths (CFR, 7.14%) from 116 LGAs (27 States) at the same period in 2014 (Figure 9).
    4.3 Between weeks 1 & 52 (2014), 1175 CSM cases with 73 lab-confirmed and 81 deaths (CFR, 6.89%)
    were recorded from 125 LGAs (26 States and FCT) compared with 871 cases with 47 deaths (CFR,
    5.40%) from 132 LGAs (27 States and FCT) at the same period in 2013 (Figure 10).
    4.4 Timeliness/completeness of CSM case-reporting from States to National Level (2015): on the average,
    81.2% of the 26 endemic states sent CSM reports timely while 98.0% were complete as against 70.9%
    timeliness and 92.5% completeness recorded within the same period in 2014.
    4.5 The SIAs for phase 4 MenAfriVac States was conducted in 2014
    4.6 Intensive Surveillance is on-going in high risk States

    5. Update on suspected Measles for week 39 as at 2nd
    October, 2015
    5.1 In week 39 (2015), 159 suspected cases of measles and zero death were recorded from 28 States
    compared with 63 suspected measles cases from 18 States at the same period in 2014 (Figure 11).
    5.2 So far, 20,005 suspected Measles cases and 97 deaths (CFR,0.48%) have been reported in 2015 from
    36 states & FCT
    compared with 14, 616 cases and 83 deaths (CFR, 0.57%) from 36 states & FCT at
    the same period in 2014.
    5.3 Between weeks 1 & 52 (2014), 15,989 suspected measles cases with 85 deaths (CFR, 0.53%) were
    reported from 36 States and FCT compared with 57,892 cases with 348 deaths (CFR, 0.60%) same
    coverage and at the same period in 2013.
    5.4 Confirmed Measles cases (lab, epi-link and clinical) between weeks 1 and 38 (2015) were 7540 cases
    (Figure 12).
    5.5 Most affected children are within the age group 9 - 59 months (Figure 13 & 14 respectively).
    5.6 Vaccination status of measles cases is 74.5% zero dose (Figure 15).
    5.7 Response measure includes immunization for all vaccine-preventable diseases in some selected /
    affected wards/LGAs during SIAs with case management.

    7. Update on National Influenza Sentinel Surveillance, Nigeria week 1 - 30,
    2015
    7.1 From weeks 1 - 30, a total of 604 cases were recruited of which 498 were Influenza
    like illness (ILI) and 106 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection(SARI).
    7.2 Out of 604 samples received 531 were processed. Of the processed samples,
    447(84.0%) were ILI cases, 84(16.0%) were Severe Acute Respiratory Infection
    (SARI).
    7.3 Of the 447 processed ILI samples, 49(11.0%) were positive for Influenza A and
    12(3.0%) positive for Influenza B. Of the 84 processed SARI samples, 4(5.0%) was
    positive for Influenza A while 5(6.0%) were positive for Influenza B.
    7.4 70(13.2%) of the processed 531 samples were positive for Influenza, with
    53(76.0%) of these were positive for Influenza A and 17(24.3%) positive for
    Influenza B. The subtypes A seasonal H3, 2009 A/H1N1 and A/not subtyped
    account for 6(11.3%) and 26(49.1%) and 21(40.%) of the total influenza A positive
    samples respectively.
    7.5 The percentage influenza positive was highest (26.7%) in week 15.
    7.6 In the reporting week 30, 26 sample were received but are yet to be processed.
