Summary
Between weeks 1 ? 26 2011, a total of 10,510 cases of Cholera with 277 deaths, CFR 2.64% while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 780 cases and 45 deaths with CFR of 5.7% have also been reported. A total of 24,986 of suspected measles cases and 180 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of this year.
So far in 2011, a total of 531 suspected cases of Lassa fever, 50 laboratory confirmed cases and 26 deaths with CFR of 4.9% have been reported. Nigeria has recorded 16 wild polio virus (WPV) cases in 6 States in 2011 with 10 vaccine derived polio virus (cVDPV2) in 6 States while no case of Guinea worm disease has been recorded in 2011.

from 15 LGAs in 9 States (Table 1)

Update on National Influenza Sentinel Surveillance (NISS), Nigeria, Week 1 - 24, 2011.
7.1. From wk 1 ? 25, a total of 1148 cases were recruited of which 907 were Influenza like illness (ILI), 233 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and 8 non-ILI non-SARI cases.
As at week 24, 70 samples (7.0%) tested positive, out of which 29 (41.4%) were influenza A and 41 (58.6%) influenza B. The subtypes A (2009) H1N1 and seasonal H3 account for 19 (65.5%)
and 4(13.8%) of the total influenza A positive samples respectively.
The percentage influenza positive was highest (38.2%) in week 9
7.2. In the reporting week 25, 74 cases were recruited. Laboratory results are pending.
