Madagascar announces first swine flu death

Madagascar confirmed its first case of swine flu after experts identified the disease in an eight-year-old girl, the health ministry announced Thursday.
The Pasteur Institute there had confirmed the diagnosis in the girl, who had arrived in the country last week after having travelled in several countries, said the ministry statement.
The A(H1N1) pandemic has so far killed 1 462 people of 177 457 registered infections across 170 countries, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO). - Sapa-AFP
