  • Ghana: Health Alert From Cholera And H1N1

Two news items on the centre spread of The Chronicle yesterday put this nation on a health alert. '15 H1N1 cases confirmed' and 'Ministry gives instructions to check spread of Cholera', tell something about how this nation has braced itself to fight the two deadly diseases.

The Chronicle is not at all amused by the timing of the directive given by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to help combat cholera, nearly two months after the disease has devastated the land.

It tells much about the state of this country, that cholera is rampant during the dry season. This is a disease usually associated with filth and the rains. Normally, it is when the rain sets in, and rubbish piles up, that flies help spread the disease.
