Cholera response
 The Central Bureau of Health Zone ( BCZS ) of Alimbongo , South Lubero Territory , reports the expansion of
the cholera epidemic with the occurrence , since 18 January 2014 , 46 suspected cases of cholera, including three deaths .
27 cases were received at the health post Taligha and 19 others in positions of private health . A team BCZS
visited Taligha January 21 for an assessment to prepare the response and route inputs
(ORS ) provided by the NGO Merlin . The occurrence of cholera cases have been reported from
the week of January 6 in the areas of health and Kamandi Kiserera lake located in the area of health Kayna .
A team of Solidarit?s International visited the area to assess the situation and undertake
prevention activities. In addition , the area of health Vitshumbi in Rutshuru territory , had on 22 January 2014
reported 55 cases of cholera , most of which came from the area of health Taligha .

Equateur: 150 children died of malaria in a month Ikela

Approximately 150 children under five years died of malaria on 465 cases of the disease recorded in one month in four areas healths Ikela, more than 1014 km to the east of Mbandaka (Equateur). The head doctor of the health zone Ikela, Dr. Jean Pierre Inonga, gave this information in a report released Monday, Feb. 4.
He said that only 18 deaths were recorded in health facilities Yaloya, yaloketo, Yolombo and Lokola while 132 cases were reported by local communities.
Dr. Jean Pierre Inonga accuses many parents to take their children to church revivals instead of hospitals or health centers qualified.

*Of the 644 cases , including three deaths from measles recorded in the province between 17 and 24 March , the District
health Lubumbashi alone recorded 390 cases , including three deaths . Nearly 30 % of cases reported
Lubumbashi from area health Kampemba . For health experts , two explanations justify
this increase : this increase is a normal reaction after a vaccination campaign in
context of epidemic where many children were in the incubation period of measles. So that the majority
of these children developed the disease soon after vaccination. These experts believe that this trend
upward Kampemba will certainly decline in almost two months. Hence , we must strengthen supervision and management of these children. This increase in cases is also explained by the fact that
Kampemba or health zone most landlocked five health zones that make up the District of Lubumbashi.
Health areas are distant from each other and also structures supported. The organization
care services as unsatisfactory in the area of health Kampemba . And since January 2014
5,138 cases with 43 deaths were recorded. This figure represents more than three times the number of cases registered at

Katanga: 7 children died of malnutrition in Mulongo

Seven children are dead, there is a week of malnutrition on about 306 cases reported between March and April in the town of Mulongo in Malemba Nkulu (Katanga). The president of the local civil society, Vangel Ngoyi Simbi, said that most of these children are from families displaced who fled the atrocities of the militia in the towns of Kapako, Kipuji and Nguya, more than 20 km from Mulongo .
This information is confirmed by the Chief Medical Officer of Health area Malemba Nkulu, Dr. Jacques Kakoma talking thirteen cases of malnutrition admitted under medical supervision.
