Meningitis
The trend is a decrease in the number of cases reported each week. Season epidemic coming to an end. No district is not of epidemic alert on May 23 January 1 to May 23 2012, a cumulative total of 3716 cases including 154 deaths (CFR 4.1%) were reported throughout the countries.

Measles
The number of measles cases notified each week remains high, although the trend is asteady decrease in cases. A cumulative 7,127 cases including 51 deaths were reported (CFR0.7%) on May 23, 2012.

Cholera
No cases have been reported since January 2012. However, with the onset of the rainy season in several localities in the country, the health districts and key stakeholders of Health andWater and Sanitation (WASH) are called to prepare to deal with any possible outbreak.WHO supported the Ministry of Public Health, from 7 to 8 May 2012, to organize a atelierbilanon the cholera epidemic in 2011. The workshop brought together senior executives turn to the Department of Health sector partners Health and WASH to draw lessons for a good preparation for the next epidemic seasons.

Evaluation of the Expanded Program on Immunization

To set a clear course of vaccination, Chad with the support of its partners has commissioned an external review to assess the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in Chad, inregarding its performance and operation. The results of this review were presented on 21May 2012 in N'Djamena during a restitution chaired by the Minister of Public Health. The review of program has raised its key strengths which are exhaustive inventory of cold chain,the existence of community networks for the recovery of incompletely vaccinated children, the existencea Coordinating Committee Inter-Agency (CCIA) Strategic supported by a technical committee, and support financial partners at all levels. The weaknesses are the lack of training management staff for intermediate and peripheral levels, inadequate planning, insufficient logistics, the irregularity of supervision and monitoring, and limited access of the population tovaccination centers.This evaluation showed that vaccination coverage is low overall (68% of BCG, 52% polio3;Penta3 42%, 54% VAR) and 19% of children aged between 1 and 23 months received no dose. Media vaccination were found for only 49% of the surveyed children, so that the covers above mentioned are poorly documented. Failure to follow the immunization schedule is the basis of a strong proportion of invalid doses.

However, UNICEF and WHO pre-positioned WASH kits and products for the treatment of cholera cases in 22 health districts at high risk. Meningitis:
Seven health districts are experiencing an epidemic, while two others are on alert. Since the beginning January 2012 when the epidemic broke out, 1,708 cases were reported including 88 deaths (CFR 5.2&#37. MSF supports the treatment of meningitis in seven districts. WHO and MSF are helping the Chadian Ministry of Health in response campaigns in eight districts. WHO advises the use of the new vaccine against meningitis, MenAfriVac, in preventing the disease, because it provides long protection for patients. Three districts have tested the new vaccine as part a pilot project have not registered so far.

Measles
Since the beginning of the year, 4,674 cases were reported with 31 deaths. The Ministry of Health organized with the support of its partners, a national campaign against measles from 20 January to 3 February 2012.

Poliomyelitis
Health districts continue to report polio cases in 2012. As of March 29, 2012, three wild poliovirus cases were reported countrywide. The Ministry of Public Health, with support its partners, organized the second round of the immunization campaign against polio in 2012 of March 28 to 30 has the place of children from birth to 59 months. OCHA has supported this process by making available to WHO 40 district health boards and areas of responsibility. Another campaign is scheduled for April.

1. Meningitis:
During the ninth epidemiological week (from February 27 to March 4, 2012), a total of 201 cases including 9 deaths (CFR 4.5%) were reported. Two health districts are epidemic, namely Oumhadjer (Batha region) and Bebeto (Logone Oriental Region). Eight (8) districts crossed the alert threshold
epidemic, namely Bessao (Logone Oriental Region), B?djondo, and Goundi Moissala (Region Mandoul), Pala and Lere (Mayo Kebbi West Region), Amtiman (Salamat Region) and Donamanga (Region the Tandjil?). January 1 to March 4, 2012, a cumulative total of 849 cases including 58 deaths (CFR 6.8%) were reported across the country.
Response:
The Ministry of Health (MOH), WHO and MSF sections have pre-positioned medicines and laboratory products in 15 districts for the diagnosis and management of meningitis. The MSP with the support of WHO launched a vaccination campaign since March 7, 2012 in the districts of
B?djondo and Goundi (Region Mandoul) who have crossed the epidemic threshold each week epidemiological 6 and 8. The campaign aims to vaccinate at least 90% of the population of 1-29 years. MSF France and MSF Holland are preparing vaccination campaigns against meningitis respectively in the districts of Moissala (Region Mandoul) and Oum Hadjer (Batha region). They

2. Cholera
No cases of cholera have been reported from week 1 to week 9. The last cases of cholera have been reported in week 50 of 2011 in the district of Bongor (Mayo Kebbi Est). In 2011, the epidemic cholera affected 37 districts of 62 with a cumulative total of 17 285 cases including 459 deaths (a rate of
2.6% mortality) at the end of week 52.
Actions:
UNICEF and WHO have supported the government by a preposition of drug products WASH (hygiene kits, disinfectant) and laboratory products in 22 districts at high risk of cholera.

3. Measles
During the 9th epidemiological week, a total of 375 cases with one death (case fatality rate of 0.3%) was notified. From 1st to 9th epidemiological week, a cumulative total of 3683 cases including 28 deaths have been reported (CFR 0.8%).
Response
WHO and UNICEF provide support to the government for a vaccination campaign against the measles throughout the country. A vaccination campaign was organized in 13 regions of 20 to 27 January 2012 and continued in nine other regions from 27 January to 3 February 2012. The campaign aimed to vaccinate at least 95% of children aged 6 to 59 months. This campaign has included vaccination against polio.

4. Poliomyelitis
In 2011, a cumulative total of 132 cases of wild poliovirus (128 type 1 and type 3) has been notified. Of First to the eighth week in 2012, a polio cases confirmed in the fourth week in the District of Bessao
(Logone Oriental) and 7 cases of AFP (Acute Flaccid Paralysis) are awaiting lab results.
Response
A vaccination campaign against polio was organized throughout the country from 17 to 19 February 2012 to improve vaccination coverage of children from birth to 59 months.
7th meeting of the CWG
Holding of the 7th Meeting of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for polio eradication in Chad chaired by the Minister of Health, in the presence of Professor Daniel Tarantola, chairman of GTC and representatives of WHO, UNICEF, Red Cross of Chad, executives and technicians Ministry of Public Health and other partners.
The objectives of the seventh meeting of the CWG were to strengthen the activities of polio eradication in Republic of Chad, the situation and progress of the national program carried out in Chad, and make recommendations to strengthen the initiative to eradicate polio.

Mia Farrow and the vaccination campaign against polio in Chad

During the epidemiological week 3 (16 to 22 January 2012), a total of 39 cases and 3 deaths
(CFR 9.8%) were reported. Two health districts that had reached the alert threshold
epidemic in week 2, namely Bédjondo and Goundi (Region Mandoul) came out of phase
