In a statement released today, the executive underlines the need for "greater control and inspection of the implementation of sanitary measures still in force".

According to the statement, the Prime Minister, Jorge Bom Jesus, also scheduled for this week a new meeting of the crisis committee to "better tackle future actions, especially at a time when commercials have already resumed".

Also in this context, the government validated a proposal for the purchase of tents for the airport of S?o Tom? and Pr?ncipe, "within the framework of measures to prevent the new coronavirus".

In the last 48 hours, S?o Tom? and Pr?ncipe recorded three more positive cases of Covid-19, bringing to 749 the accumulated cases, two resulting from 40 laboratory tests carried out on Wednesday.

According to the update of the Coronavirus Daily Bulletin this Thursday, 604 are already recovered from the disease, five are hospitalized in the field hospital and 128 citizens are in isolation at home.

The representation of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Sao Tome capital announced in a statement that since the beginning of this week the National Reference Laboratory is able to carry out Covid-19 tests "without limitation".

"As part of the strengthening of the national response to Covid-19, the World Health Organization has the honor of announcing that the certification work of the Laminar Flow Chamber - booths - of the National Reference Laboratory has been completed", states the statement from the WHO signed by its representative, the doctor, Claudina Cruz.

"Now with the three flow chambers in operation, the laboratory will be in a position to multiply its ability to carry out tests in the framework of Covid-19 diagnostics and beyond".

The document explains that "until now, the sample manipulation operations at the laboratory level were carried out in isolation chambers, which required a lot of effort and time for analysts, reaching 9 tests every two hours".

"WHO reiterates its commitment to assist the Government of S?o Tom? and Pr?ncipe in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic and in" seeking improvements for the entire national health system, through material and technical support, within the framework of international aid development, "concludes the statement.
