The measures to counter the spread of Coronavirus follow one another and are similar.

In Mozambique, President Filipe Nyusi has declared a state of emergency for 30 days as part of a strategic effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

In a live broadcast Monday evening, President Filipe Nyusi said that during the 30-day period, movement of people will be limited and public meetings banned to ensure the disease does not spread, reports the African Press Agency (APA).

The president also announced a 14-day mandatory quarantine for all people traveling outside the country in the past month.
Eight cases will have been enough to declare a state of emergency

Note that the state of emergency will be effective from midnight on Thursday.

Filipe Nyusi also called on all Mozambicans to devote themselves to the fight against the Covid-19.

According to the Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, the number of confirmed cases of this respiratory disease in Mozambique is eight.

Mozambique: two-thirds of Covid-19 cases located on a Total group project
                      By Le Figaro with AFP
                      Posted 4 hours ago

About two-thirds of the 31 cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Mozambique are linked to the project to exploit an underwater gas field led by the French group Total in the far north of the country, according to official figures released on Thursday.

"The number of cases of Covid-19 (in the country) has increased today from 29 to 31," said Mozambican Ministry of Health spokeswoman Rosa Marlene, adding that no deaths were at lament to this day. "The two new positive cases come from the transmission network" of the province of Cabo Delgado (north), she said. The Mozambican National Institute of Health said on Wednesday that 19 of the 29 confirmed cases of contamination had their origin on the Total site.

The French oil group's project has been temporarily put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Only essential activities such as site security are ensured. In a statement Thursday, Total said it had "put in place a continuity plan to minimize as much as possible the impact on the project of an event of this nature". "It is difficult to predict the evolution of the situation, but to date the timetable has been respected," added the group. Total's $ 25 billion megaproject is the first onshore development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Mozambique.

It is located in the province of Cabo Delgado, plagued since 2017 by an Islamist insurgency, which has left at least 900 dead, according to a count by the NGO Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (Acled), and caused the displacement of more than 150,000 people, according to authorities. The jihadists advocate the application of Islamic law in this Muslim-majority province

The number of registered cases of infection with the new coronavirus in Mozambique has risen from 34 to 35 in the past 24 hours. The registered positive case is of a foreign citizen with more than 20 years and is of local transmission.

The information was advanced by the national director of Public Health, in the update of data at the Ministry of Health in Maputo.

Rosa Marlene said that the positive case recorded is that of a foreign citizen over the age of 20 and is locally transmitted. negative and one was positive.

Rosa Marlene was also concerned about the fact that many Mozambicans continue not to respect the rules of confinement and social distance, behaviors that increase the risk of spreading the pandemic in the country. According to police data, since the implementation of the state of emergency in Mozambique, 260 people have been detained for disobedience and contempt for measures imposed by the state.

Yesterday, Amnesty International warned of the fact that millions of people are at risk of hunger in southern African countries due to imposed blocks to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amnesty International has urged governments in the region to urgently adopt social protection measures to guarantee the right to food.

The international organization describes that in Mozambique, the local television station STV recorded cases of police accused of taking advantage of the state of emergency to invade and rob stores.

In total, Mozambique has tested 952 suspected cases of covid-19, 11,056 have been quarantined and 1,862 are being followed by health authorities.
