Sahel: Mali announces Covid-19 curfew after first case was identified

Bamako, March 25, 2020 – Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita announced a nationwide night-time curfew on Wednesday to limit the spread of coronavirus, but said a parliamentary vote planned for this week will go ahead. In a televised address, Keita said the government will enforce a curfew between 21:00 to 05:00, from Thursday, and close land borders in response to the virus. Freight will still be allowed into the West African state, he said, and markets will remain open.
Earlier on Wednesday, Malian authorities recorded the country’s first coronavirus infections, in two nationals who had recently arrived from France. Experts fear the country is particularly exposed to an outbreak because of its jihadist conflict, which first broke out in the north in 2012 and has since engulfed the centre. Thousands of soldiers and civilians have died in the conflict, and swathes of Mali’s territory remain outside state control...
Mali reports 1st COVID-19 related death

Malian Ministry of Health and Social Affairs on March 28 confirmed the country's first COVID-19 related death.
According to the ministry, a patient tested positive for COVID-19 after passing away Saturday in Bamako.
The deceased, with a history of diabetes and hypertension, is the first death related to COVID-19 in Mali and brings the country's total number of confirmed cases to 19.
The ministry announced earlier in the day that seven suspected patients have tested positive for COVID-19...

Mali recorded, this Wednesday, March 31, 03 new positive cases of people affected by the coronavirus. These 3 new cases bring to 31 the total number of cases registered in Mali and 03 deaths.
The new cases were recorded in: Municipality II: 1 case, Municipality V: 1 case, Municipality VI: 1 case.
A case of death was registered on March 31, 2020 at the Kayes hospital. He is a 76-year-old patient. In addition, 925 contact persons are identified. Searches continue to locate other contact persons.

Mali currently has 56 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus, including 12 cured and six deaths, according to a press release from the Malian Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, this Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
On April 7, 2020, Mali's health services recorded nine new cases of the Coronavirus epidemic and three patients declared cured. The total number of confirmed cases is now 56.
Among the nine new cases, one case of death was noted in Commune IV of the district of Bamako, bringing to six the number of people who died immediately from Covid-19.
