    Kenya Confirms First COVID-19 Infection

    NAIROBI - Kenya on Friday confirmed its first coronavirus case — a 27-year-old Kenyan national who was studying abroad.

    In a press briefing on national television, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the patient is a woman who returned from the United States via London last week.

    "The government has traced all the contacts of the patient since her arrival in Kenya," Kagwe said. "Kenyans are reminded that all people who become infected will experience only mild illness and recover easily, but the disease can be more severe in others, especially the elderly persons and others with chronic illnesses."

    Kagwe said the patient was in a stable condition and that her temperature had returned to normal...

    Kenya Confirms the First Case of Coronavirus

    Kenya has confirmed the first case of case of Coronavirus after a 27-year-old female student who travelled from the United States via London on the 5th of March tested positive of the dreaded pandemic.

    Confirming the case, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS), Mutahi Kagwe however told the nation during a press briefing at Harambee House that the victim was in a stable condition but could only be discharged after turning negative to the highly contagious disease...

      ...Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday confirmed two new cases of coronavirus, bringing to three the number of confirmed cases of the deadly novel COVID-19.

      Kenyatta who addressed a televised news conference in Nairobi said two new cases originated from the 27 persons who had made contacts with the first victim that had traveled from the U.S. and whose case was confirmed on Friday.

      Kenyatta announced drastic measures aimed at containing the spread of the COVID 19 including restricting travel to Kenya from all countries with reported coronavirus cases.

      "Only Kenyan citizens to be allowed into Kenya provided they go to self-quarantine or government facility. In force for 30 days," Kenyatta said.

      He said all persons who have come to Kenya in last 14 days must self-quarantine, noting that all schools will be suspended with immediate effect...

        Coronavirus: Kenya shuts schools as new cases confirmed


        NAIROBI, Kenya

        Kenya announced to close schools nationwide on Sunday after two fresh cases of coronavirus were confirmed, taking the tally to three in the country.

        President Uhuru Kenyatta in a televised address said: “We have suspended learning in all our educational institutions with immediate effect.”

        "For those in boarding schools, the school administration is to ensure that students are home by Wednesday,” he added.

        Kenya confirmed its first case on Friday. The patient is a woman who recently traveled to the U.S. via London.

        Kenya also banned entry of travelers from any virus-hit country.

        The president encouraged employers to allow staff to work from home.

          Kenya has confirmed three more coronavirus cases, bringing the total of Covid-19 patients to seven.

          Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday confirmed that three more patients had tested positive for the virus.

          Two of the cases were a couple that travelled from Madrid, Spain on March 4 through Dubai, arriving in Kenya on the March 5...

                    The first and third patients in Kenya to contract Covid-19 have tested negative, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

                    A repeat test is scheduled in the next 48 hours to confirm the results.

                    Kagwe said he is hopeful the tests will turn out negative.

                    He spoke on Saturday, during the daily briefing on the Covid-19 situation.

                    Kagwe said there are seven new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total cases to 38.

                    However, one patient died on Thursday, so the active cases are 37...

                      ...Kenyan police on Saturday raided several churches where congregants and church officials were defying government-issued orders banning any kind of public gatherings including worshiping in churches and Mosques.

                      Bungoma South Deputy County Commissioner Michael Yator told Anadolu Agency that the suspects were arrested and detained briefly before being allowed to go home.

                        Several people who arrived in the country on Sunday and Monday have, however, said that as of Sunday they have not been tested for the virus.
                        The CS added that there are 18 individuals at Mbagathi Hospital awaiting test results and that so far they have tested 877 persons for the virus.
