The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing 2,300 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) valued at approximately SD 6,877,000 for combating suspected avian influenza in Sudan.

A press release by US Embassy in Khartoum said three hundred sets of PPE were delivered to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation office in Khartoum of April 26,2006, adding that the remaining 2000 sets are expected to arrive in Khartoum and Juba within the next ten days. The PPE is intended to prevent human exposure to the avian influenza virus and will be used by workers who are engaged in the handling, examination, and culling of infected livestock, the press release said.
