The Government has ordered that two containers carrying poultry products from Egypt be shipped back.

Deputy port police officer, Mr Ali Gitonga, said the Government suspected the products from Eqypt were contaminated with the bird-flu virus.

Government officials who met at the Mombasa port police headquarters, where the containers are being held, reached the decision to return the containers.

Egypt is among the countries in African where cases of Bird-Flu were recently reported. Gitonga said officials from the Ministry of Health, Kenya Revenue Authority and the police had all agreed that the containers should not be opened lest they expose Kenyans to the bird-flu virus.

Earlier, the Government had decided to open the containers but on second thought resolved to return them.

Gitonga said the cargo, imported by Sahal Distributors, was seized by veterinary department on suspicion they had chicken soup, which may be contaminated with the bird flu virus.
