March 17, 2010
Tambacounda - The Common Kidira (Tambacounda region) has been erected in the center of active epidemiological surveillance in the fight against bird flu, said Wednesday the regional inspector of the veterinary services, Dr Bernard Faye.
"Kidira became a center for epidemiological surveillance assets", like other parts of the country, said Dr. Faye, also general secretary of the Regional Committee for the fight against avian influenza (Coreg).
He was speaking at an information and awareness on prevention of influenza A viruses in the presence of a communications team of Support Program at the national prevention and fight against bird flu (PAPLUGA).
This means in practice that "periodically, mixed teams criss-cross these areas and surroundings, taking samples from poultry, to determine their HIV status, said the veterinary inspector. Teams are not limited to Kidira, but travel to surrounding villages.
"Kidira is a strategic point in relation to the entry of livestock and people across the country from neighboring countries, noted Bernard Faye to explain the interest in this locality, the last before the border with Mali, which is a crossing point for goods from Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria and the sub-region in general.
The Tambacounda region in a comprehensive manner is an important device in standby, as it shares a border with three countries and with the national park it contains "300 species of birds," suggested the Secretary General of Coreg, which is an offshoot of the National Committee for the prevention and fight against bird flu (CONAG).
The latest charges that the national laboratory was made last February to Kidira on fifty subjects had proved "negative," he said.
Bernard Faye assured that the inspection of veterinary services Kidira is "having the necessary means" to complete the task he was assigned. These include, logistics and packaging materials.
Senegal is not immune, but Senegal is currently free "bird flu, said Bernard Faye, who for the moment that emerging countries in Africa such as Egypt and others outside the continent like Hong Kong, The Netherlands, have been affected, Senegal can also be.
"What is important is to prevent," he said on the sidelines of the meeting. For the doctor, Senegal had the "chance" to see the laboratory of the Institut Pasteur Dakar chosen as a reference to the subregional level.
"We are able to act quickly. Senegal has equipment necessary to contain the disease," he further reassured, stating that helped PAPLUGA "geo-referencing, all poultry sites and identify the all the poultry farms, which can be identified by clicking on the computer to facilitate interventions in the event of an outbreak of the virus.
Senegal has also referenced a laboratory at the national level in 48 hours which may determine whether the samples submitted its analysis to contain the virus of Avian flu or not, has added its share to the communications advisor PAPLUGA Habibou Diallo who made the travel as part of program activities.
He hoped that all present "the governor farmer, can act as relays in awareness. Sessions are also provided with restaurants, since farming is "from farm to fork".
Posters, leaflets, T-shirts and caps were distributed to serve as media of communication services devolved government, the territorial command, actors in the poultry sector, the movement of women and others who were represented at the meeting. The film simulation held last May in Malika (Dakar) has also been proposed.
