Gabon, like Africa and the rest of the world, may have to live with Covid-19 over time, said WHO ? DR
The Gabonese health authorities have set up a daily, complete, precise and updated information point on the development of the presence of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country. This is done every day at the end of the afternoon by Dr Guy-Patrick Obiang Ndong, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, at the head of the Steering Committee for the watch and response plan against the epidemic of Coronavirus in Gabon. An exercise in transparency, rare in Africa, which helps to dispel false information and make room for malicious and irresponsible comments that abound on social networks. Here is the one for Friday May 15.
Learn to live with Coronavirus
The latest scientific information on the current epidemic indicates that the Coronavirus may never disappear. In other words, we need to learn to live with the Coronavirus in our homes, families, communities, government offices and in public places.
Protect the most vulnerable
As you know, 80% of people with Covid-19 are healthy carriers because they do not have the disease, 15% have mild symptoms and 5% develop severe forms that can go as far as death. In short, 95% of people with Coronavirus recover from this disease.
It is not a disease which is systematically fatal but which can worsen in people who are over 65 and those with comorbidities such as high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, asthma and obesity.
This is why, we must protect vulnerable people by avoiding exposing them to the Coronavirus by the systematic wearing of the mask, physical distancing, the systematic washing of the hands with water and soap or a hydro alcoholic gel.
We must learn to live with the Coronavirus.
Epidemiological situation
In terms of epidemiological surveillance, out of the 433 samples taken, we recorded 105 new positive cases distributed as follows:
- In Libreville, 103 positive cases out of 400 samples, for a total of 1,011;
- In Franceville, 1 case out of 26 samples, for a total of 159 positive cases;
- In Lambar?n? 1 case out of 7 samples, for a total of 12 positive cases.
Press conference on Friday May 15, 2020
However, it should be noted that in the Haut-Ogoou? province, outside of Franceville, there are 3 cases in Mvengu?, 2 cases in Moanda and 1 case in Mounana.
Regarding treatment, we recorded 37 new healings, for a total of 219 people healed, 125 hospitalized, including 11 in intensive care.
In summary, out of 7,050 samples, we have 1,209 confirmed positive cases including 219 recoveries and 10 deaths.
Reminder of barrier gestures
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based gel;
- In case of coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or a handkerchief. Immediately throw away the tissue and wash your hands;
- Avoid close contact with a person having fever and cough;
- Greet without shaking hands and avoid kissing;
- Clean contaminated objects and surfaces.
