An unknown disease has caused more than 80 children to die in two months in the Rubenga chiefdom, according to the Territorial Youth Council in Idjwi territory in South Kivu.
During an interview with a Watoto News correspondent this Tuesday, February 27, Chance Lwagera, president of this youth structure, underlines that these deaths were noted during descent in several villages.
He says he has noted that several children whose ages vary between 0 and 3 years have died from an illness not yet known to the population, because the majority of these cases have not reached health structures.
He invites the Idjwi health zone to investigate these cases to identify this disease, which is similar to malaria, and share prevention measures with the community.
“It’s shocking with all these deaths. We are calling on the health zone because there is an increase in deaths of children aged 0 to 3 and we do not yet know what it is. With a small descent, which we organized, we have a result of 82 children that we lost between January and February 2024. It is for this reason that we demand investigations to find out the real cause of these deaths. Declares Chance Lwagera .
Our efforts to contact the Central Office of the Idjwi Health Zone have not yet been successful.
