Beyene Moges, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopia Public Health Institute (PHI), said the suspected outbreak of AWD has so far affected 174 people, with medical professionals currently giving medical treatment to the individuals.
Moges said a team consisting of federal, regional and zonal officials have been sent to the areas in Amhara regional state affected by suspected cases of AWD, with a mission to prevent further outbreaks.
He however said the remoteness of the areas as well as poor telecommunication and road networks are hampering efforts to effectively deal with the suspected cases of AWD.
