    Natitingou, 06 Nov.2018 (ABP) -The head departmental department of public health and traditional medicine of the Atacora Departmental Health Department Dr. Salifou Sourakatou, took stock of the epidemiological surveillance activities in the department, told Agence Benin Presse that 436 suspected cases of meningitis, 33 cases of measles and 25 cases of yellow fever were among others recorded in the department from 1 January to 30 September 2018.

    In this assessment interview, Dr Sourakatou revealed that out of the 436 suspected meningitis cases counted in the department on 30 September 2018, 31 died, 04 transferred elsewhere, a priori in Borgou and on the side of Burkina and remained untraceable. The remaining 400 cases, he certified, are alive.

    He also informed that 33 suspected cases of measles, including 10 in Boukoumb?, 07 in Natitingou, 04 in Toucountouna and 02 in Cobly, 02 in K?rou, 02 in Kouand?, 02 in Mater, 02 in Pehunco and 02 in Tangui?ta, were inventoried.

    According to the doctor, 25 suspected cases of yellow fever were recorded during the same period in the department. The commune of Toucountouna, notified 08 cases, followed by Boukoumb? 06 cases, Kouand? 03 and Material and Pehunco 02 cases each. The communes of Cobly, K?rou, Natitingou and Tangui?ta recorded each 01cas.

    According to the doctor, 16 children are suspected of polio in the region. 01 to Boukoumb?, 03 to Cobly, 03 to K?rou, 01 to Kouand?, 01 to Mater, 01 to Natitingou, 02 to Pehunco, 02 to Tangui?ta and 02 to Toucountouna.

    Speaking of the management of the outbreak of Lassa haemorrhagic fever that shook the department this year 2018, the head of public health in Atacora, reported that out of the 08 cases recorded, 04 died with large capitalization in the management of Lassa virus outbreaks.
