By Abdellah Ouardirhi - 4 October 2017166 views

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl succumbed to intoxication in Oulad Sghir commune, while six other children remain in critical condition. The origin of the poisoning remains unknown for the moment.

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl who suffered from poisoning in the Oulad Srhir commune in Settat province on Monday (October 2) severely worsened the health of six other children between the ages of 2 and 6 years. One of them was urgently evacuated to the Ibn Rochd Hospital in Casablanca to receive intensive care while the others are still in a critical emergency situation at the Hassan II regional hospital in Settat.

According to Al Massae in its October 4 issue, the medical team was unable to determine the origin of the poisoning. Nevertheless, according to the director of the hospital Hassan II of Settat, Khalid Raqib, the poisoning would be due to the ingestion by children of an undetermined component that would not be food, most likely a pesticide.

An investigation was initiated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to determine the causes of the incident.

"Safety and security don't just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear."
