Ebola case reported in Guinea’s capital city

By Sara Jerving, Rumbi Chakamba // 18 February 2021

A case of Ebola has been identified in Guinea’s capital city of Conakry, just days after a new outbreak was reported in the country. Guinea was one of the epicenters of the massive Ebola epidemic in West Africa between 2014 and 2016.

The outbreak was first reported in the Nz?r?kor? region. Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, regional director for Africa at the World Health Organization, said a symptomatic person visited several health facilities in the region and then traveled by taxi to Conakry.

Overall, there are eight confirmed and probable Ebola cases and six deaths in Guinea.....https://www.devex.com/news/in-brief-...tal-city-99201

....Meanwhile, Dr. Jallah has also clarified rumors that there is no confirmed case of Ebola in the country stating that the Ministry is currently monitoring a female who has come down with high fever and malaria after arriving from Guinea on Friday, February 12.
Jallah said a local clinic where the patient had gone for treatment raised the alarm because of her travel history from Nzerekore, Guinea where there are reports currently that up to at least 10 persons died due to Ebola.....https://www.theinquirernewspaper.com...ed-ebola-case/

Ebola In Guinea: Royal Air Maroc Company Suspends Flights To Conakry

          By Actuguinee.Org
          Updated Feb 19, 2021

Following the resurgence of the ebola virus epidemic in the south of the country where 335 contacts are followed according to the prefectural director of health of n'Nz?r?kor?, the airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has suspended all its flights to and from departure from the Guinean capital, Conakry. This is in any case the information received from the passengers of the company.

For the moment, the national health security agency is giving itself 3 weeks after the arrival of more than 11,000 vaccines to defeat this disease in the south of the country, N'z?r?kor?.https://actuguinee.org/index.php/202...on-de-conakry/

This paper says it's not because of ebola...

RAM is suspending its flights to Conakry, could resume them on March 2 ...

The Moroccan company Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has suspended its flights to Conakry since the beginning of the week. Contrary to what is circulating on the web, the reason is not linked to the resurgence of the Ebola virus disease in Guinea, in its southern part.
According to a generally well-informed source, the motive would be internal to the company which is facing restructuring like many other large African companies (South African Airways, Kenya Airways).

Our sources tell us that the borders between Guinea and Morocco remain open and that those who are interested in the destination may well borrow other companies to reach either Conakry or Morocco. Not without recalling that at the height of the Ebola crisis in Guinea (2013-2015), the Kingdom maintained its flights to Guinea and keep its borders open.
At the latest news, we learn that the RAM could - barring a last decision - extend its wings over Guinea from March 2.

Siguiri: a confirmed case of Ebola recorded in L?ro (DPS)

Barely reappeared in Guinea, the Ebola epidemic is already beginning to spread throughout the country, despite the measures being taken by the health authorities.
A positive case of Ebola was recorded on the afternoon of this Friday, February 19, 2021 in the district of L?ro under the sub-prefecture of Siguirini, prefecture of Siguiri.
According to the prefectural director of health of Siguiri who confirmed the information to mosaiqueguinee.com, the patient is a contact of a case which has been declared in N’Z?r?kor?.
"He was loaded into the SMD ambulance for Siguiri where the ambulance from Kankan was waiting to take him to the N’Z?r?kor? treatment center on instructions from Conakry," said Dr Moussa Ciss?.

According to the DPS, the patient, who is a resident of L?ro district, was already developing symptoms of Ebola.
“What to fear now is contact. Because, of course, he made contact with his parents. From tomorrow (Saturday February 20, 2021 Editor's note) a team will be in L?ro to clarify the situation, ”promised the prefectural director of health of Siguiri.
The prefecture of Siguiri, which is unfortunately counted among the areas affected by Ebola, had also been hit by the covid-19 pandemic, which had killed at least three people in the city.
                To be continued.

EBOLA: a new positive case reported in L?ro (Siguiri)

                  By LEDJELY.COM
                  February 19, 2021
For now, we do not know how he got there. But our sources are clear, a new positive case of the Ebola virus disease was recorded this Friday in Lero, in the prefecture of Siguiri. It is probably a contact from Siguiri who would have ended up on this side. But we are told that he presented to the Lero Health Center with symptoms identical to those of Ebola disease. The first investigations do not take long to confirm the positive character.

It is a SAG ambulance, we are told, who then transported it to Siguiri town, particularly at the CTPI level. But once there, instructions from Conakry demand that he be immediately taken to N'z?r?kor?.
A team should go to Lero tomorrow to try to find the contact cases. Whatever with this news, the “risks of spreading the disease are even more important, given the promiscuity that we have in these mining areas. Without forgetting all those with the patient had to rub from N'z?r?kor? to L?ro ”, tells us a specialist, concerned.

KANKAN: details on the discovery of the first positive case of Ebola in L?ro (Siguiri)

                    By LEDJELY.COM
                    February 20, 2021

Less than a week after the confirmation by the Guinean health authorities of the resurgence of the Ebola virus in Guinea, in the sub-prefecture of Gou?k? 45 kilometers from N'Z?rekor?, the Kankan region in Upper Guinea announced in the evening from this Friday February 19, 2021 his first positive case with the killer virus.

Contacted by Ledjely.com, a source within the Regional Directorate of Health (DPS) of Kankan explained the circumstances in which this first case of Ebola was detected in the gold mining town of L?ro, emerging from the prefecture of Siguiri. According to our information, it was after learning that one of the contacts - who took part in the funeral of his sister who died of the Ebola virus in Gou?k? a few days earlier - was staying in L?ro that a mission of the DPS from Kankan was dispatched to try to locate him.
Once in the locality, the mission found that the patient (a teacher in his thirties living in this mining sub-prefecture) had presented to the L?ro health center with symptoms of the disease. And the first investigations have confirmed that it is indeed a carrier of the dreaded virus.
According to Dr. Sako Sylla, the regional health director of Kankan, contacted on the evening of Friday, the patient " is currently on his way to N'Z?r?kor? for his care ".

Recall that the confirmed case of Ebola which was recorded in Siguiri has just returned from a stay in N'z?r?kor?. Ebola resurgence in N'Z?r?kor?: pending the arrival of vaccines, the Gou?ck? market closed

                        February 20, 20210

Since the resurgence of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in Gou?ck?, a sub-prefecture under the prefecture, every day, a crisis meeting brings together the prefectural administrative authorities, the health authorities to take stock of the evolution of the disease in their jurisdiction.
This Saturday, thanks to this meeting, the authorities announced two new suspected cases, two confirmed cases and four probable cases. This brings the total number of contacts to 328 contacts, including 310 follow-ups.
Regarding the holding of the weekly market in Gou?ck? on Saturday, the prefect S?a Yola Tolno indicated that all measures are taken to prevent it. To achieve this objective, the Prefect called on the transport union and local authorities at all levels.
For now, the question that torments all minds is whether or not the population will adhere to the vaccination campaign announced for next week with the first batches of anti-Ebola vaccines intended for the most affected localities.

..."We have already dispatched a team to look for the Contacts cases in the area. At the moment, we cannot say exactly the number of contacts, our teams are working in the field. That's after that we are going try to make the connection, "said Dr Mohamed Sacko Sylla.

The regional director of health in Kankan ensures that all urgent and appropriate measures are taken to curb the spread of this virus in the administrative region of Kankan.
For his part, Dr Moussa Ciss?, Prefectural Director of Health of Siguiri, indicated that nine (9) contacts were found in Siguirini. Figures that seem small. " I sent a team of 4 to four people to find all the contacts, " explained Dr Ciss?.

Gou?k? (N'Z?r?kor?): the risk of the spread of Ebola is very high

The risk is very high in Gou?k?, N'Z?r?kor? sub-prefecture where the Ebola epidemic reappeared last week. On site, no barrier measures to prevent the spread of the virus are observed. Life continues as if nothing had happened, which should seriously complicate the response announced by the authorities, reports a special envoy of Guineematin.com in the locality...

This Saturday, February 20, 2021, is weekly market day in Gou?k?. A few days ago, the authorities decided to close this market to limit the risk of the spread of the Ebola hemorrhagic epidemic. But, this decision remained a dead letter, since the place is crowded this morning. According to our information, the authorities tried to enforce this decision, but to no avail...

In addition to the opening of the weekly market in Gou?k?, it should be noted that no barrier measure is respected in this rural commune.
Some citizens interviewed by our special envoy on the spot also maintain that there is no Ebola in the locality and that the government is simply trying to get rich on their backs. With such a situation, the risk of spreading the disease remains very great.https://guineematin.com/2021/02/20/g...st-tres-grand/

N'Z?r?kor?: A new case of Ebola confirmed and several suspects detected

Less than 24 hours before the start of vaccination against the Ebola virus in Forest Guinea, the situation does not seem to be at all bright.
Indeed, the situation of the Ebola virus epidemic seems to take a worrying pace a few hours before the announced arrival of the first vaccines.
Due to a new case confirmed on several suspected cases in the text phase, more than 20 untracked contacts, probable cases under observation, seem to worry the medical circles of the city. Even if the administrative authorities are optimistic.

For now, all questions remain about whether the population adheres to vaccination or not, especially in Goueck?, the epicenter of this epidemic. Because everything suggests that the populations do not seem convinced of the presence of this virus in their locality.

Ebola vaccines did not arrive in Conakry due to bad weather

                                By
                                Mady Bangoura -

                                February 21, 20210

During a press briefing held recently, WHO announced the very imminent arrival of vaccines in Guinea to respond to the Ebola virus which has just made its reappearance in the forest region. These vaccines should arrive in Conakry this Sunday, February 21, 2021. But the weather conditions have not militated in this favor.

However, there were many, these journalists mobilized around the representative of the WHO and the directors general of the Central Pharmacy of Guinea and the National Health Security Agency, in order to witness the arrival of vaccines.
                                .
According to Dr Sakoba Keita, the vaccines left since 9:30 am in Geneva and that their arrival was scheduled for 13:37. “But because of the fog, the plane could not land. They continued on Dakar. The director of the Agency promised us that the plane will return to Conakry tomorrow morning ”, confided the director general of the ANSS.

Also, he said he was examining a plan B in case the sky clears, to find a plane in Conakry, in order to shorten this period and maintain the vaccination plan already established by the ANSS. "Never mind, we prefer to take more security and postpone the launch of the vaccination for Tuesday in Gou?ck? and Conakry", he concluded.

The plane was carrying the vaccines that were recently announced by the WHO. These are 11,000 doses of vaccine against Ebola which is currently raging in the country.
While staying in Gouek?, the epicenter of the epidemic, reached by phone, the Minister of Health, General Remy Lamah, said he had the same information with the WHO representative, Pr George Alfred Ki-Zerbo. Adding that "we are in the process of seeing by which means the vaccines can be conveyed from Dakar to Conakry".
