Chad: worried about rising death toll in N'Djamena

In N'Djamena, cases of death are increasing. Every day, dozens of families are surprised by the sudden disappearance of a loved one. News of deaths invades social networks, especially Facebook,

" He was sick ?" "No, he had a little discomfort and passed away." These are generally the exchanges between the bereaved families and the others. Every day, almost in every district of the capital, at least one dead has been registered for more than a week. According to the report, many of those who die are between 45 and 70 years old. Some of them were already suffering from either hypertension or diabetes.

A gravedigger in Lamadji reports that just for the day of Thursday, May 7, 2020, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., 87 people were buried in this cemetery. Too much mystery around the deaths so much that it raises a lot of questions. Is it Ramadan that weakens diabetics? Could an unknown epidemic be hidden behind these massive deaths? Or did the Covid-19 take another form in Chad? Who is this silent killer?

In any case, panic is gaining ground. The attention of health authorities is more focused on the fight against the coronavirus than on these mysterious deaths. The only answer given by health specialists is that usually during a heat wave the death rate is too high in the country.

Comparison is not right it is said that, at the same time as in N'Djamena, families count their deaths, in northern Nigeria, especially in Kano and Jigawa, we observe these mysterious deaths. Most of the victims are also between 60 and 80 years old.

An investigation is open in these two big cities of Nigeria, but already the health authorities emit a hypothesis: the new coronavirus is the cause of dozens of mysterious deaths recorded. If this is the case in Chad, the authorities must launch an investigation to determine the exact causes of the mass deaths.
