    Rwanda- COVID-19: Seven New Cases Linked to Cross Border Truck Drivers Recorded

    Rwanda yet again recorded seven new cases of New Coronavirus attributed to truck drivers on Saturday out of 1, 275 tests done. The Ministry of Health said the new numbers, which follow 22 cases recorded on Friday reflect a spike in the cases.

    The seven take the total cases registered in Rwanda to 183 but 1 new recovery put the recoveries at 88 while active cases are now 95.

    “This reflects a rise in cases of cross-border truck drivers and their assistants. All active cases are in isolation in stable condition,” the Ministry of Health said in the daily brief.

    Cross-border truck drivers and their assistants, mainly from Tanzania, entering through Rusumo border post are in the spotlight for being the new importers of new coronavirus in the region...

      Kenya- Mass Covid-19 testing for all truck drivers

      The government has ordered targeted mass testing of truck drivers after it emerged that Kenya has been exporting Covid-19 to neighbouring countries.

      This comes as the government confirmed 12 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of those who have tested positive to 355.

      Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman said the decision to test transit cargo drivers was arrived at after a section of Kenyan drivers were confirmed positive.

      Last week, five Kenyan drivers tested positive in Uganda — three entered the country through Malaba and two through the Busia border point...

          Trucks carrying a variety of goods drive through an expansive site with tented warehouses, and before they could park hazmat-suited workers run to spray down the trucks.

          The cargo trucks from Tanzania entered Rwanda through Rusumo border post. Sanitation workers are making all necessary attempts to disinfect the vehicles.

          “This is an exercise done as part of the efforts to contain the spread of the new coronavirus,” one healthcare worker tells The New Times.

          After being disinfected, trucks proceed to be cleared by customs officers who clear goods, before they could be transhipped.

          Last week on Friday, Rwanda recorded 22 new coronavirus cases, the highest number the country had registered.

          The cases were linked to cross border drivers and their crew...
