Coronavirus: 27 new cases, including one new indigenous case
    Thursday April 2, 2020 - 18:08

The prefecture and the Regional Health Agency confirm 27 new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus in Reunion, this Thursday, April 2 at 3 p.m., i.e. a total of 308 cases since the appearance of the first case on March 11, 2020.

267 cases have been investigated by the ARS and Sant? publique France to date.

    • Assessment of the cases investigated:

Imported cases (people who contracted the disease outside the territory): 214
Cases of local transmission (directly or indirectly linked to imported cases): 51
Aboriginal case (not directly or indirectly related to imported cases): 2

Total number of cases investigated: 267

Imported cases represent 80% of cases.

    • Health situation:
Cases hospitalized in the intensive care unit: 2
Patients who have already met the criteria for recovery pronounced by the teaching hospital (absence of fever and shortness of breath for at least 48 hours, from the 8th day of onset of symptoms): 40

    • Age groups of the cases investigated:
    Minors: 11%
    18 to 50: 50%
    51 to 65: 27%
    over 65: 12%

    • Location of cases
Even today, the vast majority of cases identified are imported cases (mainly from mainland France) or cases of direct contamination by imported cases, travelers or contacts of imported cases.

No indigenous chain of transmission has been identified to date, that is to say, no grouping of cases which are said to have been contaminated in a commune or a district of R?union.

To date, there are no areas of the island more at risk than others, and the barrier and containment measures therefore apply as a precaution everywhere and in the same way.

In this context, there is no need to communicate on the location of cases, this information will only make sense in the event of the identification of indigenous transmission areas in the territory.

41 cases are still under investigation ...

The prefecture and the ARS, the Regional Health Agency confirmed the new figures: 358 cases confirmed since the appearance of the first case on March 11, 2020.

The prefecture and the ARS, the Regional Health Agency confirmed the new figures: 9 new cases announced this Tuesday evening, 358 cases confirmed since the appearance of the first case on March 11, 2020. 330 cases have been investigated at this time by ARS and Sant? publique France. 40 caregivers contracted the disease.

? Assessment of the cases investigated:

The number of so-called “indigenous” cases is now aligned with the definition of Public Health France. The previous categories so far defined as "Local transmission case (directly or indirectly linked to an imported case)" and "Native cases (without direct or indirect link to an imported case)" become "Secondary Native cases (related direct with an imported case) "and" Indigenous cases (indirect or unrelated to an imported case) ".

Imported cases represent 73% of cases.
28 cases are still under investigation

All confirmed cases are the subject of the identification of all those who have been in contact with these patients (family, professional, close passengers on planes ...).

All these "contact" people are called individually by the ARS monitoring unit in collaboration with Sant? publique France. Their state of health is assessed on this occasion. They are told again during the interview the importance of respecting strict isolation, daily monitoring of their state of health (with temperature measurement) and calling immediately on the 15th if symptoms appear. .

Here is the distribution of cases by age group:

To date, nearly 2,250 people have been identified through contact-tracing organized by ARS.

All these people were contacted by the ARS in order to ask them for strict confinement, to ensure their state of health, to refer them without delay to the SAMU-15 in the event of the appearance of signs and to deliver them masks to ensure protection against their immediate surroundings.

These people are currently being actively monitored at 3 levels:

These contacts are asked to call a dedicated toll-free number every day as part of their self-monitoring prescribed by the ARS

? Contacts who do not regularly call the toll free number are called back (as part of a collaboration with the CIC of the CHU) halfway through their fortnight to ensure that their isolation and their state of health are maintained

? The operator in charge of the toll-free number calls back all the contacts at the end of the fortnight to notify them of the end of their fortnight and once again check their state of health.

However, caution is advised, say the authorities, who are asking the Reunion Islanders not to relax their vigilance and to strictly respect confinement.

This Friday, April 17, the overall assessment is back on the rise with 8 new confirmed cases, for a total of 402 cases of covid-19 in Reunion. The first case was revealed on March 11.
8 cases are still under investigation.

                      A case in prison

Among the new cases is a person imprisoned since Wednesday and screened upon his arrival at the penitentiary center of Domenjod. This person is asymptomatic and has been taken care of by the CHU and all of his contacts are being identified.

                      71% of cases imported

For the time being, the ARS has been able to carry out investigations for 394 of the 402 known cases. 281 are imported cases, or 71% of the cases investigated, 64 are secondary native cases and 49 are native cases.

Among them, 238 patients are considered to have been cured by infectious diseases specialists at the CHU.

Out of the 394 cases investigated, 27 are children under the age of 14, or 7% of the cases, 42.2% are between 15 and 44 years old, 39.1% are between 45 and 64 years old, 7.8% are between 65 and 74, and 3.9% are over 75.

According to data from Public Health France, we learn more about the evolution of the epidemiological curve.
Due to restrictions on arrival in the country and consequently the decrease in the number of imported cases, the number of new confirmed cases has decreased sharply since the end of March. The number of indigenous cases remains stable and low: between zero and 10 cases per day.

With this sharp decrease in the number of imported cases and the maintenance of a low number of indigenous cases, the proportion of indigenous cases increases:

                      • 4% during the week of March 23 to 29
                      • 15% during the week from March 30 to April 05
                      • 54% during the week of 06 to 12 April

                      Significant screening activity

More than 3000 tests are carried out per week in the department.

                      Goals :
                      • Identify cases as early as possible
                      • Quickly retrace your course
                      • Recontact and isolate any person who would have been in contact with this case during their infectious period.

                      From April 06 to 12:

47 tests were positive out of 3,038 tests carried out in public and private laboratories in R?union
Or a 2% positivity rate (it was 14% during the week of March 16 to 22).

                      Medical history and symptoms

According to the information published by Sant? Publique France:

26% of confirmed cases have reported medical history or comorbidities including:

                      - hypertension blood pressure (26%),
                      - chronic respiratory pathology (25%)
                      - diabetes (20%)

The most commonly reported symptoms are: cough, fatigue, muscle pain, migraines and fever.

                      290 hospitalized patients

The number of hospitalized patients has been decreasing continuously since the end of March due to the number of hospital discharges (for recovery or maintenance at home without signs of seriousness). After a peak in activity at around 50 patients hospitalized between March 25 and April 1, the number of hospitalizations decreased to reach 12 hospitalized patients, today in conventional hospitalization (excluding resuscitation) ....
