The prefecture of La R?union and the Regional Health Agency announce three new cases of coronavirus confirmed this Thursday, May 7, including 2 imported cases and one indigenous case. R?union has now had 430 cases since the virus appeared on the island on March 11.

                70% of cases imported

According to the Reunion prefecture, of the 430 cases, 426 have been investigated by the ARS and Public Health France at this time. 4 cases are still under investigation. Imported cases still represent 70% of cases.

                - Imported cases (people who contracted the disease outside the territory): 295 including 5 medical evacuations.
                - Secondary indigenous cases (persons having a direct link with imported cases): 66
                - Indigenous cases (people with an indirect link or having no link with an imported case): 60

                Nine hospitalized patients

                Currently, nine patients with Covid-19 are hospitalized in Reunion, three of whom are patients who have been evacuated from Mayotte. Four are in intensive care, including two medical evacuees;

Age groups of the cases investigated:

                - 0 to 14 years: 7.9% (34 cases)
                - 15 to 44 years: 41.1%
                - 45 to 64 years: 39.7%
                - 65 to 74: 7.2%
                - 75 and over: 4%

                Health evacuations

As part of regional solidarity, Reunion Island health facilities welcome French patients from the Indian Ocean. Currently 3 patients with COVID-19 from countries in the Indian Ocean are hospitalized at the Reunion University Hospital and 2 come from Mayotte.

The procedure for medical evacuations (EVASAN) of patients from Mayotte to R?union health establishments is a classic procedure and has been organized for several years since it concerns around 1000 patients each year, for treatment which cannot be carried out on site by the Mahoran healthcare system.

The objective is to promote the appropriate reception of patients from Mayotte in order to relieve the CHM in the context of the health crisis linked to COVID-19, which is currently experiencing an amplification in Mayotte.

This increase in the effort of Reunion hospitals for Mayotte will be done, with the support of the public authorities, by articulating two concerns:

Preserving care capacities for Reunionese patients
The implementation of necessary measures to ensure the safety of patients and caregivers (equipment, compliance with a strict fortnight for these patients, accompanied by vigilance on the organization of the return to Mayotte after healing of the patients) ....

Second level: Health Insurance, for the identification of contact cases beyond the family circle (professional, friendly environment ...), the call of these people to give them all necessary recommendations among which include the he obligation, from now on, to be systematically tested (even without symptoms) and the obligation to respect at least fourteen days of isolation at home, or even more in certain cases.

Third level: the ARS, which will regularly call contaminated people and contact people to check with them that everything is going well at home during periods of essential isolation.

These people are the subject of a telephone survey during which their health is assessed and the importance of:

the attending physician at the first level: identification of the closest family circle,
Health Insurance at the second level: identification of professional, friendly environment ...
ARS at the third level: investigations of complex situations and cases grouped into communities to identify early and limit cluster formation).
