        Guinea-Bissau with 56 new cases and over 1,000 recovered

        Magda Robalo insisted on the need for the population of Guinea-Bissau to wear a mask and comply with social distance to reduce the number of contagions.

            Last week, Guinea-Bissau recorded 61 new infections with the new coronavirus, increasing the total accumulated cases to 2,149 and the number of fatalities to 33, said today the entity responsible for combating the covid-19 pandemic.

            In the week between 10 and 15 August, 1,415 samples were taken and 61 new cases were recorded, said the high commissioner for combating covid-19, Magda Robalo, at the weekly press conference to update the country's pandemic data.

            According to the former Minister of Health, Guinea-Bissau records 2,149 accumulated cases, of which 1,006 are still active.

            Regarding the fatalities, Magda Robalo said that 33 deaths were registered.

            "In total, 39 deaths were recorded, of which 33 are deaths from covid-19 and six from people who died from other causes, but were also positive for covid-19", he stressed.

            The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 770,429 deaths and infected more than 21.7 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
