(COVID-19) Guinea-Bissau: the number of infection cases increases to 594, with 30 new cases - News 08/05/2020

BISSAU NEWS, May 8, 2020 (Yeclo with Xinhua) - Guinea-Bissau health authorities on Friday evening reported 30 new cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the provisional number to 594 confirmed cases in the country, announced Tumane Bald?, spokesperson for the Interministerial Commission for the Prevention and Combating of COVID-19.
"Out of 94 tests performed in the past 24 hours, 30 returned positive," said Tumane Bald?.
He also said that all of these new positive cases "came from community transmission", adding that the health status of all patients was "stable".
Guinea-Bissau has already passed the 500 contamination mark, while the country registered its first two cases of COVID-19 infection on March 25. The rapid spread of the virus continues to worry the public and health authorities.
The Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior have already left the hotel where they were placed in quarantine, after having obtained the results of their analysis tests which returned negative.
Guinea-Bissau has put in place several restrictive measures to contain the spread of the virus, including the closing of borders, restaurants, bars, places of worship and schools, and the prohibition of assemblies and movement people.
A curfew was introduced between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., people are allowed to leave their homes only, according to the new schedule in effect starting Monday, between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to go shopping. President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo extended the state of emergency until May 11.
To date, Guinea-Bissau has 594 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 26 cured and two deaths. End
