        The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has disclosed that between January and June, the country has recorded a total of 204 suspected Monkeypox, MPX, cases out of which 62 cases were confirmed to be positive.

        Disclosing these during a Virtual media dialogue on Monkeypox titled:”Monkeypox Spread, Infodemic and Public Health Response in Nigeria.”, the Incident Manager, National Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre, Dr Lateefat Amao, said between 2017 and June 2022, that about 25 States have recorded cases of Monkeypox in Nigeria.

        She said: “Monkeypox is endemic in some of Nigeria. The epidemic has been mostly stable over the last five years since the resurgence. Some progress has been made in improving, prevention, detection and response.

        “However, obvious challenges and gaps remain. There is a need for sustained MPX preparedness and response efforts with the support of all stakeholders and partners.

        Detailing the sequence of the distribution and test positivity rate of MPX over the last five years, Amao said: “In 2017 there were 198 suspected cases whereas 88 cases were confirmed and test positivity rate, TPR % was 44.4....

          The state Commissioner of Health, Engineer Yakubu Nuhu Danja, disclosed this on Tuesday while flagging off the distribution of free medicare medicines and commissioning of emergency operations call centre at the State Primary Healthcare Agency office.

          “We have confirmed one case of monkeypox in the state and all measures were taken to ensure that the patient was well treated. The person has been discharged to his family.

          “We have 15 other suspected cases and their samples have been taken to the national laboratory Abuja and their results are expected hopefully within the week,” he said.

          The Katsina State Government has said it has recorded a case of monkeypox, while results of 15 other samples were being awaited from laboratory tests taken to Abuja.             Monkeypox: Nasarawa records 6 cases as health ministry cautions residents on environmental hygiene

            The Nasarawa State Government says it has confirmed six cases of the monkeypox outbreak in two Local Government Areas of the state, Lafia and Keffi.

            Pharm. Ahmed Yahaya, the State Commissioner for Health disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Lafia.

            The commissioner explained that two cases were first reported in Keffi Local government in May and another four cases reported in Lafia.

            According to him, health care workers in the state have been sensitised and trained on the occurrence of the disease, noting that drugs and essential commodities have been procured and treatment obtained in all general hospitals and the federal medical centre Keffi...

                Monkeypox cases hit 101, highest in five years
                The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 101 cases of Monkeypox in 2022, its highest figure since 2017 when the disease re-emerged.

                The centre, in its latest Monkeypox situation report for week 27, added that no fewer than 301 suspected cases of the disease have been reported in the country.

                Monkeypox is a rare viral zoonotic infectious disease transmitted from animals to humans that occur sporadically, primarily in remote villages of Central and West Africa near tropical rainforests.

                Nigeria is one of the countries in Africa where the disease is endemic.

                The epidemiology report of the viral infection, according to the NCDC, revealed that Nigeria reported 88 cases in 2017; 49 in 2018; 47 in 2019; 8 in 2020, and 34 in 2021, which brings the total number of confirmed cases from 2017 to 2022 to 327.

                The epidemiology report of the disease from July 4 to 7, revealed that there were 56 suspected new cases reported from 22 states – broken down into, Katsina (12), Gombe (7), Adamawa (6), Bauchi (5), Bayelsa (3), Ondo (3), Delta (2), Edo (2), Lagos (2), Plateau (2), Abia (1), Anambra (1), Borno (1), Enugu (1), Kaduna (1), Kebbi (1), Kogi (1), Kwara (1), Nasarawa (1), Ogun (1), Oyo (1) and Taraba (1)...

                    Nigeria records 17 new monkeypox cases in 12 states

                    The continued spread of monkeypox, Lassa fever, COVID-19 and the possible importation of Marburg virus from Ghana has raised fresh concerns in Nigeria.

                    Latest epidemiological summary from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirms 17 new cases of monkeypox in 12 states and 13 fresh incidents of Lassa fever in Ondo, Edo, Plateau and Anambra.

                    The 12 monkeypox-infested states are: Ondo (three cases); Adamawa (two); Bayelsa (two); Delta (two); Anambra (one); Borno (one); Edo (one); Gombe (one); Katsina (one); Kogi (one); Plateau (one) and Lagos (one).

                    The centre said there were 56 new suspected cases in Epi week 27 (July 4 to 10) from 22 states, including Katsina (12); Gombe (seven); Adamawa (six); Bauchi (five); Bayelsa (three); Ondo (three); Delta (two); Edo (two); Lagos (two); Plateau (two); Abia (one) and Anambra (one).

                          FG confirms 16 new cases of monkeypox from 12 states

                          The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), yesterday, confirmed 16 new positive cases of monkepox from 12 states. According to the latest update, Rivers has three infections, Anambra (two); Oyo (two); Taraba (one); Lagos (one); Imo (one); Edo (one); Gombe (one); Delta (one); Bayelsa (one); Akwa Ibom (one) and Bauchi (one).

                          The epidemiological summary shows that there were 37 new suspected cases reported in Epi Week 28 (July 11 to 17, 2022) from 21 states – Plateau (four); Taraba (three); Rivers (three); Oyo (three); Imo (three); Anambra (three); Ondo (two); Lagos (two); Kwara (two); Ogun (one); Kano (one) and Katsina (one).

                          Others are: FCT (one); Enugu (one); Gombe (one); Bayelsa (one); Delta (one); Edo (one); Nasarawa (one); Bauchi (one) and Akwa Ibom (one).

                          The centre observed: “From January 1 to July 17, 2022, there have now been 338 suspected cases and 117 confirmed cases (80 males, 37 females) from 25 states –Lagos (15); Adamawa (11); Delta (10); Rivers (nine); Edo (eight); Bayelsa (eight); Nasarawa (seven); Plateau (six); FCT (five); Ondo (five); Anambra (four); Cross River (three); Kwara (three); Borno (three); Taraba (three); Oyo (three); Imo (three); Kano (two); Katsina (two); Gombe (two); Niger (one); Ogun (one); Kogi (one); Bauchi (one) and Akwa Ibom (one).”

                          NCDC said three deaths were recorded in Delta Lagos and Ondo states. Overall, since the re-emergence of the disease in September up to July 17, 2022, 850 suspected cases have been reported from 35 states.

                          Of the total, there have been 343 (40.4 per cent) confirmed infections (228 males, 115 females) from 30 states – Rivers (61); Bayelsa (51); Lagos (45); Delta (39); Edo (18); Cross River (17); FCT (11); Adamawa (11); Imo (11); Nasarawa (nine); Oyo (nine); Plateau (nine); Akwa Ibom (eight); Anambra (six) and Ondo (five).

                          The rest are: Enugu (four); Abia (three); Kwara (three); Borno (three); Taraba (three); Benue (two); Ekiti (two); Kano (two); Niger (two); Ogun (two); Katsina (two); Gombe (two); Ebonyi (one); Kogi (one) and Bauchi (one).

                          In addition, from September 2017 to July 17, 2022, a total of 11 deaths had been recorded (Case Fatality Ratio/CFR= 3.2 per cent) in eight states – Lagos (three); Edo (two); Imo (one); Cross River (one); FCT (one); Rivers (one); Ondo (one) and Delta (one)...

                            Edo Confirms 8 Cases of Monkeypox Infection

                            July 25, (THEWILL) – The Edo State Ministry of Health has confirmed that eight persons have so far tested positive for monkeypox in the state.

                            The Commissioner for Health, Prof Akoria Obehi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the Ministry had ramped up surveillance and other activities to curb the spread of infectious disease.

                            She, however, noted that all persons who were diagnosed with the disease have recovered.

                            Prof Obehi noted, “Amid the rise in the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox in Edo, it has become imperative to warn on the health risks that the virus poses and reiterate the need for residents to be cautious and adhere to safety measures.”...

                              The Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, alongside the state Epidemiologist, Nuhu Bile, has confirmed the state has joined 26 other states of the federation with incidence of monkeypox.

                              Briefing journalists at the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, the commissioner disclosed that out of 19 suspected cases in Gombe, no less than three persons have been confirmed to have monkeypox.

                              Dahiru, who doubles as the state incident manager revealed that the state opted for testing with Polymerase Chain Reaction, which is the World Health Organisation’s approved method in order to ascertain the actual position of patients.

                              According to him, no death has been recorded, stressing that recovery was between three to four weeks period.

                              The health commissioner said, “We have 19 cases in the state, samples were collected from all the suspected cases and three returned positive for monkeypox virus...

                                60 monkeypox cases reported in 19 states-NCDC

                                Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed, on Sunday, that no fewer than 60 new suspected cases of monkeypox were reported in epidemiology week 31, 2022, (1st to 7th August, 2022), from 19 states, with four deaths since the beginning of the year.

                                Breakdown of the figure indicated that Ebonyi state led with eight cases, Abia (5), Adamawa (5), Ondo (5), Taraba (5), FCT (4), Imo (4), Lagos (4), Ogun (4), Edo (3), Anambra (2), Gombe (2), Kwara (2), Rivers (2), Cross River (1), Oyo (1), Kano (1), Nasarawa (1) and Niger (1).

                                Of the 60 suspected cases, NCDC said that 15 new confirmed cases were recorded in the period under review from 10 states, namely, Imo (3), FCT (2), Ondo (2), Rivers (2), Abia (1), Anambra (1), Ebonyi (1), Edo (1), Ogun (1) and Nasarawa (1).

                                It said that from 1st January to 7th August, 2022, there have been 473 suspected cases of monkeypox with 172 confirmed cases (115 male, 57 female) from 27 states, namely, Lagos (20), Ondo (16), Adamawa (13), Rivers (13), Delta (12), Bayelsa (12), Edo (9), Nasarawa (9), Anambra (7), FCT (7), Imo (7), Plateau (6), Taraba (5), Kwara (5), Kano (5), Abia (4), Cross River (3), Borno (3), Oyo (3), Gombe (3), Katsina (2), Kogi (2), Ogun (2), Niger (1), Bauchi (1), Akwa Ibom (1) and Ebonyi (1)...
