Coronavirus claims 2nd member of N.J. family, four other members remain critical
Updated 2:25 PM; Today 1:43 PM

By Jeff Goldman | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com and Spencer Kent | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

A second person from one New Jersey family has died after being infected with the coronavirus, the family’s attorney confirmed Wednesday.

Carmine Fusco, a New York- and New Jersey-based horse racing trainer died Wednesday morning, Roseann Paradiso Fodera, a cousin and the lawyer representing the Fusco family, confirmed to NJ Advance Media. His sister Rita-Fusco Jackson died last Friday and then later tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the state’s second victim.

Family members say multiple other relatives remain in critical condition.

The deaths of Fusco and Fusco-Jackson are connected to the death of John Brennan, a horse trainer who lived in Little Ferry. Brennan was the first New Jersey resident to die after testing positive for COVID-19.

Coronavirus Ravages 7 Members of a Single Family, Killing 3

The matriarch of the large New Jersey family died Wednesday night without ever knowing that her two oldest children had died before her.

      By Tracey Tully

Grace Fusco — mother of 11, grandmother of 27 — would sit in the same pew at church each Sunday, surrounded by nearly a dozen members of her sprawling Italian-American family. Sunday dinners drew an even larger crowd to her home in central New Jersey.
Now, her close-knit clan is united anew by unspeakable grief: Mrs. Fusco, 73, died on Wednesday night after contracting the coronavirus — hours after her son died from the virus and five days after her daughter’s death, a relative said.
