    New Jersey bans events with more than 250 people to stem coronavirus

    New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy banned any public gathering with more than 250 people Thursday as part of the Garden State’s latest effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

    “Based on the guidance we have received from the commissioner of health, we are recommending cancellation of all public gatherings in New Jersey of more than 250 individuals – including concerts, sporting events and parades,” Murphy said in a statement...

      TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced 21 new cases of presumed positive coronavirus Friday, raising the state total to 50 presumptive cases with one death.

      Gov. Murphy says the state is currently working with school districts on extended closure plans to prepare for a potential statewide closure.

      On Friday afternoon, health department officials announced an additional presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus identified in Camden County. The patient, a woman in her 60s, is currently in self-isolation at her home in Cherry Hill and is maintaining frequent contact with the county health department....

            Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin said Saturday that he is asking all residents of the town, which has about 40,000 people, to self-quarantine.
            Hameeduddin said people have continued to congregate in recent days and that heightens the risk of the virus spreading even more.

            "The more people we have in different places, the worse it gets, so we're asking people to take it seriously and stay home," Hameeduddin told 1010 WINS Saturday evening.
