Joint Statement from Governor Murphy, Acting Governor Oliver, and Commissioner Persichilli on Fourth Presumptive Positive Case of Novel Coronavirus in New Jersey
03/6/2020
This evening, we identified a fourth presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, in New Jersey. The individual, a male in his 50s, is hospitalized at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Bergen County. The individual has been hospitalized since March 5.
The presumptive positive result came from a sample tested by the New Jersey Department of Health at the New Jersey Public Health Environmental Laboratories and is now being submitted to the CDC for confirmatory testing. State and local public health authorities are proceeding with the public health investigation and response activities as if this was a confirmed case and following all infectious disease protocols.
Currently, there is one Person Under Investigation pending testing in the state Public Health Environmental Labs.

“While we know that any case of coronavirus presents a cause for concern for our residents, we want to emphasize that this case only reemphasizes the need to follow personal hygiene guidelines vigilantly, this should not be a cause for panic and the risk to the general public remains low,” said Health Officer Paschal Nwako. “Our department has been planning and preparing for several weeks for the possibility of a case of coronavirus in Camden County, and residents can rest assured that we are prepared to act swiftly and protect the health of our community.”
The Department of Health is currently coordinating with the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), the Governor’s Office, and other state, local, and federal partners to ensure a comprehensive and appropriate response to the ongoing public health threat presented by coronavirus.

The latest patient to be diagnosed, in Englewood, was discharged to their home on Thursday afternoon, where they are to remain in self-quarantine, Englewood Health hospital said.

A coronavirus patient in Fort Lee, New Jersey, is a health-care worker with a residence in Manhattan, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The infection of health-care workers is of particular concern for two reasons: They could have contracted the disease from a patient, or they could have been around vulnerable people while sick.
