KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri has recorded its ninth coronavirus death as the outbreak continues to spread, hitting nursing homes particularly hard.
St. Louis County officials said Thursday that the latest victim is a woman in her 80s with chronic medical conditions. The announcement came after Missouri health officials said the state had 502 confirmed cases of COVID-19, up from 356 on Wednesday.

Labs are required by the Missouri Code of State Regulations to immediately report positive COVID-19 test results. As commercial labs increase their capacity for testing, we will continue to receive results from them requiring immediate verification of patient data for each result. Prompt efforts to protect the public’s health depends on this verification. Patient data from commercial labs is preliminary and subject to change following initial public health involvement.
Patients tested in Missouri (by all labs): approximately 19,430
As of 2:00 p.m. CT, April 2
Approximate update: 2:00 p.m., April 3
These data are provisional and will change daily. Investigations are being done on new cases, so as additional information is determined on these cases, information such as county, demographics, and the total counts will continue to change. Efforts are continually being made to improve data quality so that DHSS is providing the most accurate information possible.
...“The reason is when we made COVID-19 reportable, we did not make deaths reportable within 24 hours,” Williams said. “We have now corrected that, so that providers who have a death will be required to notify us within 24 hours.”
