    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Four additional residents at a Maryland nursing home beleaguered by more than 100 positive cases of COVID-19 have died, local health officials announced.

    The Carroll County Health Department said nine people living at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy and diagnosed with the new coronavirus had now died as of late Saturday.

    Gov. Larry Hogan said late last week the new coronavirus has been confirmed in 60 different nursing homes in the state, with Pleasant View cases marking the most intense cluster.

    As of 10am 2,331 Marylanders have been diagnosed with COVID-19, an increase of 346 since Wednesday; 36 have died.

    Maryland’s latest morning update on the state’s rising count of confirmed coronavirus cases came with an announcement of nine additional deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 31.

    Three more Marylanders have died from the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 18, according to the state health department.

    The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maryland has risen to 1,660 as of Tuesday, the day after Gov. Larry Hogan issued an executive order requiring residents to stay at home except for essential activities, state officials said. Tuesday’s total represented an additional 247 cases in the state — an 18% increase over the previous day.
