Woman dies days after sister became first Illinois coronavirus death

An older sister of Illinois’ first coronavirus victim has also died from the disease, according to reports.
Wanda Bailey, 63, of Crete, died Wednesday at a hospital in Olympia Fields nine days after COVID-19 claimed the life of her younger sister, Patricia Frieson, a 61-year-old retired nurse who marked the state’s first known coronavirus fatality on March 16, the Chicago Tribune reports.

WILLOWBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- Illinois health officials announced the number of coronavirus cases in the state has reached 1,865, with 19 deaths.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 330 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, including three deaths.
The deaths were identified as a Kane County man in his 90s, a Cook County man in his 60s, and a Will County woman in her 50s.
There are now three new Illinois counties reporting COVID-19 cases: Douglas, Marshall and Morgan.
Patients range in age from younger than one to 99.

CHICAGO (AP) - An elderly resident of a suburban Chicago nursing home where dozens of residents and staffers tested positive for the coronavirus has died, officials said.
The death of the 90-year-old woman who lived at Chateau Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Willowbrook comes as a top official at the facility denied a contention made by a former certified nursing assistant that she had quit her job because there were not enough protective gear and appropriate cleaning supplies.

Public Health Officials Announce 236 New Cases of Coronavirus Disease

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 236 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including three deaths in Cook County; two men in their 80s and a man in his 90s.
Monroe is now also reporting a case. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,285 cases in 31 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years. Cases by county can be found on the IDPH website, as well as a list of local health departments who will have the most up-to-date information.

Public Health Officials Announce 296 New Cases of Coronavirus Disease

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 296 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including an infant. IDPH also announced three deaths. The deaths included a Cook County man in his 80s, a Chicago man in his 80s, and a McLean County woman in her 70s. Jo Daviess, Livingston, Rock Island, and Stephenson counties are now also reporting cases. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,049 cases in 30 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years.
Health officials are still learning about this new virus and information and guidance is rapidly evolving. At this time, it is still unknown if a pregnant woman with COVID-19 can pass the virus to her fetus or baby during pregnancy or delivery. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, no infants born to mothers with COVID-19 have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. In these cases, which are a small number, the virus was not found in samples of amniotic fluid or breastmilk.
Cases by county can be found on the IDPH website, as well as a list of local health departments who will have the most up-to-date information.

Jefferson Park man dies of COVID-19 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital
Michael Mika died Thursday at Northwest Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A 73-year-old man from Jefferson Park on the Northwest Side has died from the coronavirus, COVID-19, an autopsy confirmed Friday afternoon.
Michael Mika died at 6:18 p.m. Thursday at Northwest Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy result released Friday found he died of bronchopneumonia due to a viral infection of COVID-19, the medical examiner’s office said. Contributing factors included heart disease and diabetes.
