    3 DC Firefighters Test Positive For Coronavirus

    Public safety officials confirmed that three D.C. Fire and EMS personnel had presumptive positive tests for the new coronavirus.

    WASHINGTON, DC — Chief Gregory M. Dean of D.C. Fire and EMS confirmed Thursday that three firefighters in his department have presumptive positive tests for the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

    "The health and safety of our residents and our members has been my top priority," Dean said, during a press conference of Mayor Muriel Bowser's emergency management team.       The greater Washington region’s total number of novel coronavirus cases sits at 338 on Friday. Maryland added 42 cases Friday, bringing the state’s total to 150. Virginia reported 22 more cases Friday, for a total of 116. The District reported 32 new patients Thursday evening, its highest single-day increase, for a total of 72.

      Here are some of the most significant and recent developments as the region responds to the pandemic of the coronavirus, which causes the disease covid-19:

      From Thursday: D.C. cases surge, Maryland adds new restrictions as coronavirus reaches grim milestones

      • The District Department of Health said the first known death in the city as a result of the virus is that of a 59-year-old man who was admitted to a hospital last week. The man had a fever and cough, as well as other underlying medical conditions, health officials said.

            D.C. reports 21 new cases of covid-19

            The District announced 21 new coronavirus cases Saturday evening. Two of those diagnosed include young girls, 9 and 11-years-old.

            That brings the total number of reported cases in the District to 102.

                                Coronavirus renders U.S. Capitol a ghost town through most of April

                                House won't be back until April 20 at earliest; Capitol extends temporary closure to visitors through April amid health crisis

                                The halls of the U.S. Capitol — usually teeming with lawmakers, staff, press and visitors — will remain mostly empty over the next three weeks as health officials continue to urge Americans to take personal steps to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

                                House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer advised members Monday that they should not expect to be called back to Washington until April 20 at the earliest. Senate Republican leaders have indicated that they do not plan to return to Washington until sometime after the Easter recess.

                                And the Capitol will remain closed to visitors through May 1, the Senate and House sergeants-at-arms announced in a joint statement Monday. The sergeants-at-arms first temporarily banned public access to the Capitol because of the health crisis on March 12.
