The positive test makes the Nimitz the Navy's fourth aircraft carrier so far to report a positive case among crew members.

A sailor assigned to the USS Nimitz, a Bremerton, Wash.-based aircraft carrier, tested positive for Covid-19 last week after experiencing symptoms while on board the ship, according to three defense officials familiar with the matter.

The positive test makes the Nimitz the Navy's fourth aircraft carrier so far to report a positive case among crew members.
The individual was put into isolation and removed from the ship. Contact tracing — or monitoring those who came into contact with the infected sailor — was done in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the officials said.
Another crew member has also tested positive...

...The USS Theodore Roosevelt is battling the spread of the virus on board, with more than 150 positive Covid-19 cases so far.
...Two other carriers — the USS Ronald Reagan undergoing maintenance in Japan, and the USS Carl Vinson undergoing maintenance in Puget Sound — have also reported positive cases... https://www.politico.com/news/2020/0...-nimitz-173210

The Nimitz was just getting ready to leave drydock after an overhaul, I believe. I think the sailor would have been living in the community when he got sick. The Nimitz is going to be used as a quarantine vessel for now. https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/...emic-continues

ETA: I didn't read quarantine article. The Nimitz was already populated and doing training. The quarantine reference was in regards to the ship itself being quarantined, NOT in regards to taking in sailors from other vessels.

Pentagon, Navy in conflict over coronavirus cases on board USS Nimitz

BREMERTON — The Navy has disputed claims there are sailors sickened with COVID-19 aboard the USS Nimitz, as the aircraft carrier continues preparations in Bremerton for deployment in the Pacific.

But Gen. John Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Thursday, that the Nimitz does have cases.

"There's been a very small number of breakouts on the Nimitz, and we're watching that very closely before the Nimitz goes out," he said. "But it's not a huge breakout, it's not a big spike at this point."

At least 840 Sailors on USS Roosevelt test positive for coronavirus

          By Bob Fredericks

          April 23, 2020 | 3:02pm
At least 840 Sailors assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt had tested positive for the coronavirus, and the number could climb as a “small number” results at still pending, the Navy announced Thursday

The Navy had tested the entire 5,000-member crew of the Nimitz class, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which made headlines when its former commander, Capt. Brett Crozier, was relieved of his duty for issuing a plea for help for his crew that quickly became public.

Thursday’s number rose from the 777 cases the Navy reported Wednesday when it said 99 percent of the crew had been tested, The Hill reported....https://nypost.com/2020/04/23/at-lea...onavirus-navy/

Second US Navy warship hit by major coronavirus outbreak
            APRIL 24, 2020
(CNN) — A US Navy destroyer performing a counter narcotics mission has been hit by an outbreak of at least 18 coronavirus cases, a US Navy official tells CNN.

The USS Kidd is the second ship to be impacted by a major outbreak of the virus while at sea following the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

The Pentagon later confirmed that there has been an outbreak on the ship, with more than one sailor testing positive out of a crew of around 330. The ship is assigned to the recently enhanced counter narcotics mission in the Caribbean/Eastern Pacific aimed at countering illicit drug trafficking.

The first sailor that tested positive was medevac’d off the ship when he displayed symptoms, according to Pentagon spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman, and tested positive at a medical treatment facility in San Antonio.

“The Sailor is stable and receiving care at a medical treatment facility in San Antonio, Texas,” the Navy said in a statement Friday....
