Thailand said it detected six more novel coronavirus cases, taking the total to 25, and that one of the people is seriously ill.
Four of the new cases are in Thais, and the other two are Chinese, Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director general of the Department of Disease Control, said in a briefing Tuesday in Bangkok.

Among the four Thais, two are hire-car drivers who picked up Chinese passengers, and the other two are a couple who recently returned from a trip to Japan, Suwannachai said.
One of the new Thai cases is a 70-year-old who has pneumonia as well as the corornavirus infection and is in a serious condition, the disease control official added.

Seventeen of the overall 25 cases remain hospitalized. Thailand’s confirmed case count is currently the highest outside China.

Thailand reported more cases of human-to-human transmission of coronavirus with six people -- four Thais and two Chinese tourists -- the latest found to be infected, Thai health officials said on Tuesday.

"The country is now in the stage of disease transmission. Since they are staying in places full of foreign visitors, tourists are likely to be in areas of disease transmission," said Dr Tanarak Plipat, deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department.

He was speaking after health authorities contacted Seoul for information about a Korean woman found infected with novel coronavirus on her return from Thailand despite having never visited China.

Dr Tanarak said that authorities were informed of the case in South Korea and were seeking details of her test results, condition and where she had visited in Thailand...

Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), WHO Thailand Situation Report – 6 February 2020
                  Report from World Health Organization
                  Published on 06 Feb 2020

                  HIGHLIGHTS

As of 6 February 2020, 25 laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV cases have been reported by health authorities in Thailand, most of them persons from China, including Wuhan city of Hubei Province, who visited Thailand.

Besides these cases, 595 persons in Thailand have been under investigation for 2019-nCoV, with tests still being carried out on the majority of them, while others have been treated for symptoms and discharged.

The confirmed cases of Thai nationals include two taxi drivers who likely came into contact with infected passengers from China. One of these men has been released from hospital and appeared at a press conference with the Thai Ministry of Public Health to share his experience. The Thai authorities are conducting a hygiene and safety campaign aimed at citizens (including taxi drivers) who come into close contact with international visitors or who otherwise operate in crowded environments.

There are also two Thai nationals who traveled to Japan and displayed symptoms after returning to Thailand, but health authorities say it’s as yet unclear where they acquired their infection.

A confirmed case in the Republic of Korea had travelled to Thailand prior to onset of illness and diagnosis. The timeline in this case suggests it is possible infection could have been acquired in either Thailand or in the Republic of Korea after the person returned home...
