      Current situation in Switzerland

      As of February 26, 2020

The new corona virus was detected in one person in Switzerland. The person concerned was in Italy. The health authorities notify close contact persons. It is possible that further cases of illness occur. The risk to the population is moderate.

So far, around 300 people with suspicions of the new corona virus have been clarified. Smears from the nose and throat were examined in diagnostic laboratories. Several people are in quarantine in their canton of residence. They have to stay in their apartment and avoid contact with others.
The federal government, cantons and health care are prepared.
      • In Ticino, tests for the new corona virus are intensified in the case of flu-like symptoms.
      • The Infoline is increasingly available in German, French, Italian and English.
      • Entrants and commuters from Italy are informed at the borders what to do if they have symptoms (difficulty breathing, coughing or fever).
      • Arrivals at the airports are also informed.
      • Public transport and border guards receive detailed information.

For all measures, the Confederation works closely with the health authorities of the cantons, especially with those of the Canton of Ticino. No entry restrictions to Switzerland

There are no restrictions for entering Switzerland. Information for incoming travelers from Italy is in preparation. Good to know
      • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use a hand disinfectant.
      • Sneeze or cough into a handkerchief; or if you don't have one, in the crook of your arm.

New coronavirus Covid-19: three new confirmed cases in Switzerland

Bern, 27.02.2020 - A person from the canton of Geneva and two people in the canton of Graub?nden have tested positive for the new coronavirus. The person in the canton of Geneva returned to Switzerland from the region of Milan a few days ago. All three are being treated in hospital in an isolation unit. Their health condition is good. The number of cases in Switzerland that have tested positive has therefore risen to four.

The person in the canton of Geneva is a man who tested positive for the new coronavirus after recently returning to Switzerland from the region of Milan. He is now in isolation at Geneva University Hospital. Tests carried out by the National Reference Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases in Geneva confirmed that the person was infected with the new coronavirus.
Both individuals in the canton of Graub?nden are also in isolation at hospital and are in good health.

People who have been in close contact with the infected persons have been notified and placed in quarantine. The cantonal and federal authorities are taking all necessary measures to prevent the virus from spreading to others. This includes identifying people that the infected individuals may have come into contact with and monitoring their condition in quarantine over the next 14 days.

In view of the rising number of confirmed cases around the world, and particularly in northern Italy, it is likely that further cases will occur in Switzerland. The medical services are well prepared to identify and deal with suspected cases and treat further patients.

Coronavirus: Canton takes preventive measures against proliferation

            02/27/2020

The coronavirus COVID-19 was detected in two people in the canton of Graub?nden. The people are in good health, precautionary hospitalized and well cared for. In close consultation with the Federal Office of Public Health, the canton takes all measures to prevent the virus from being transmitted to other people. The Maloja, Bernina, Engiadina Bassa / Val M?stair and Moesa regions are currently affected by the precautionary measures.

Analysis of the reference laboratory for emerging viral diseases (NAVI) in Geneva confirmed the suspicion that the two people have contracted the new corona virus. The sick people are two children of an Italian family who is a guest in the Upper Engadine. They show symptoms, but are in good health. They were hospitalized based on the instructions of the BAG for the isolation of data subjects. As part of contact management, four people were placed in quarantine for observation, two of whom are the closest caregivers of the affected children and also in the hospital. The test results of these people are pending.

Prevention: Cancellation of major events - Engadin ski marathon affected

"The canton has now taken measures to prevent the virus from being transmitted to other people," said government councilor Peter Peyer. This includes that the health authority has decreed that public events with a supraregional character in the regions Maloja, Bernina, Engiadina Bassa / Val M?stair and Moesa are prohibited until March 8, 2020. This applies in particular to the Engadin Skimarathon and the events surrounding this event. For the other parts of the canton of Graub?nden, the health authority recommends that major events be avoided. "This is especially true for occasions when the participants cannot be identified and if necessary tested or isolated," said cantonal doctor Marina Jamnicki.

Currently around 20 suspected cases in the canton of Graub?nden - investigations are ongoing

In addition to the two confirmed cases, there are currently around 20 unconfirmed suspected cases as well as seven suspected cases throughout the canton, which have proven to be negative. The clarifications run through the laboratories designated by the federal government.

The responsible committees in the canton are constantly reassessing the situation.

Eight cases of coronavirus in Switzerland, including two patients in French-speaking Switzerland

Seven new cases of coronavirus were confirmed Thursday in Switzerland. After Ticino on Tuesday, the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, Graub?nden, Aargau, Zurich and Basel announced a total of 7 new Covid-19 patients.

The state of health of the patients is considered good. There is no sign of the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) currently in Switzerland, recalled at a press conference Virginie Masserey, head of the infection control section of the Office Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

But given the increase in the number of confirmed cases worldwide, especially in northern Italy, it is likely that other cases will be diagnosed in Switzerland, warned the office. "We will have to learn to live with the virus that will not disappear from the world," said Daniel Koch, head of the communicable diseases division of the FOPH.

The latest cases reported in the cantons of Zurich and Aargau involve a 26-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman. They both recently stayed in northern Italy and are hospitalized. Italy is increasingly seen as a platform for disseminating Covid-19.

In Basel-City, it is a woman who works in a daycare center. She was placed in isolation at the University Hospital Basel. One hundred children are normally taken care of in the daycare. Due to the holidays, only a few were in contact with the infected person.

                Two cases in French-speaking Switzerland
The first case of coronavirus identified in Geneva is a 28-year-old computer scientist also returning from Italy and who works at the administrative headquarters of the public institution of home support (imad) in Carouge. With mild symptoms, he was admitted to the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and placed in solitary confinement.

People who had been in contact with him for the last two days before the onset of symptoms, or around twenty in his professional and private circle, were placed in preventive quarantine at their home for 14 days, the time of incubation.

A case has also been confirmed in the canton of Vaud. He is a 49-year-old French cross-border worker who works on Vaud soil and who has been detected there, according to a press release from the cantonal police. Contacted, the latter did not want to specify if the forties was hospitalized in a hospital in the region. He was immediately isolated and his condition is not cause for concern.

The case of his wife, also a worker in the canton, is highly suspect, indicate the police who will give more information on these two cases Friday at 11:30 am. In the case of a border case, the cantonal authorities actively collaborate with the French health authorities, as well as the FOPH.

In the canton of Neuch?tel, the tests of four people, including three children, came back negative. The isolation measures have been lifted. As a precaution, around twenty children and staff from a Corcelles cr?che had also been quarantined: it was lifted.

The cantonal official recalls that in the current state - the first phase, an epidemic wave - the objective is "to try to make a containment, that is to say to delay the progression of the disease". But if the number of situations becomes too large, emphasizes Jacques-Andr? Roman, "this strategy would be abandoned by the Federal Office of Public Health in favor of more targeted care by trying to isolate people who suffer from others' coronavirus, to be able to avoid cross-transmission. "

The Geneva cantonal doctor reminds, however, that currently, "in the vast majority of cases are progressing favorably and it is on the part of sick people that we must manage to concentrate care." The health authorities, who were not surprised by this first case, are now waiting for others. "We have to be realistic, we have several trains a day with France and Italy, the city of Geneva is an international city, so we were not surprised to have a first clinical situation."

                      Current situation in Switzerland

Due to the current situation and the spread of the corona virus, the Federal Council classifies the situation in Switzerland as a special situation according to the Epidemic Act. It prohibits major events with more than 1000 people. This ban comes into force immediately and applies at least until March 15, 2020.

This measure is intended to limit the spread of the corona virus in Switzerland.

The “special situation” allows the Federal Council to itself - in consultation with the cantons - order measures that are normally the responsibility of the Federal Council.

As of February 29, 2020, 5.45 p.m .: The Reference Laboratory for Emerging Viral Diseases (NAVI) in Geneva has confirmed infection with the new corona virus in 18 cases in Switzerland. There are reports of illnesses from the cantons: Ticino, Geneva, Graub?nden, Aargau, Zurich, Basel-Stadt, Vaud, Baselland, Bern and Valais. All sufferers are isolated and their health is good. Health authorities notify close contacts.

COVID-19: A CONFIRMED CASE IN THE CANTON OF NEUCH?TEL

                          02/03/2020

The Bernese health authorities informed the cantonal doctor that a Neuch?tel resident had been confirmed for the Coronavirus. The cantonal doctor will carry out an entourage investigation to determine if proportionate measures are necessary. RHNe reminds you that the confirmatory test is only useful for people who have symptoms after returning from an epidemic zone.

Since last week, the Neuch?tel Hospital Network (RHNe) has set up a system to receive people affected by the COVID-19 virus. The Protected Operating Center at the Pourtal?s site and dedicated boxes at the La Chaux-de-Fonds site were opened to avoid overcrowding in emergencies and to allow specific care for patients. This system is open until further notice, depending on the development of the situation.

This Monday, a dozen people returning from areas affected by the virus went to the emergency room. Most of them had no symptoms of the disease (fever, cough, difficulty breathing). The medical profession reminds in this regard that a test is not indicated in the absence of symptoms of the disease. Two conditions must be met before contacting a doctor: you must be back from a risk zone within 14 days and present symptoms of the disease. In this case, and only in this case, you must call your doctor or, if this is not possible, the hospital.

This sorting in advance is essential to allow hospitals to focus on cases that meet the required criteria. As the head of the Communicable Diseases Division of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) Daniel Koch pointed out last week, it is important "to conserve our resources to focus on the most serious cases, the people elderly and chronically ill. Therefore, mild cases must demonstrate self-discipline. If you cough or have a cold, don't run to the hospital but use the special numbers available. ”

As the first domestic coronavirus infections appear in the country and nearly half of all Swiss cantons have reported cases, federal authorities have stepped up efforts to slow the spread of the virus. There are now 47 confirmed cases in Switzerland.

On Monday, authorities reported the first cases of people infected by Covid-19 inside the country. Since the first confirmed case on February 25, infections had been related to travel to infected regions outside Switzerland.
