(2nd LD) S. Korea warns of more virus cases in Daegu, total almost 3,000
      All Headlines 12:03 February 29, 2020

SEOUL, Feb. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Saturday warned a large number of virus cases will be reported in Daegu, the epicenter of virus outbreak here, as the country intensified its anti-virus fight with a massive program of testing on followers of a religious sect in the city.

The country reported a whopping 594 additional cases of the new coronavirus to bring total infections to 2,931. So far, 16 people have died in South Korea from the virus that emerged in China.

Of the 594 new cases, 476 are in Daegu, 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, and 60 were reported in neighboring North Gyeongsang Province, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

The number of patients in Daegu, the epicenter of virus outbreak here, surpassed the 2,000 mark, accounting for more than 70 percent of the total cases in South Korea.

The sharp increase in confirmed virus cases in the country's fourth-largest city, which has a population of 2.5 million, came as authorities began intensive tests on followers of the Shincheonji church in Daegu.

Many more confirmed virus cases are expected in the coming days as health authorities have begun testing more than 210,000 Shincheonji followers.

The Daegu city government said earlier the number of virus patients there may exceed 3,000, considering that the church accounts for roughly 80 percent of its confirmed cases so far...

          • Could someone please edit the title of this thread to 17 deaths. The problem is being caused by a format error in copying and pasting the tables . In post 182, the column headers and data are misaligned and causing confusion. The pictures provided by commonground in post 184 show the correct alignment. 17 fatalities not 27.

            • South Korea confirmed 813 more coronavirus cases on Saturday, the biggest increase to date for the country, taking the national total to 3,150 infections with four additional deaths.

Authorities also reported the country’s first case of reinfection – a 73-year-old woman who tested positive for a second time after her recovery and release from hospital last week.

The illness recurred “as her immune system had declined”, said Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) official Kwon Jun-wook.

At least 10 reinfection cases have already been reported in China, Kwon added.

More than 90 percent of the new cases were in Daegu, the centre of the country’s outbreak, and its neighbouring North Gyeongsang province, the KCDC said in a statement.

Three women in the Daegu area and one man died of the illness, taking the national toll to 17, the statement added. All were aged in their 60s or older.

In Daegu, 1900 Shincheonji Church members have been tested for coronavirus. 1300 had symptoms & 600 did not. Among those 1300 with symptoms, 87.5% were confirmed with the virus . BUT out of the 600 WITHOUT symptoms, 70% were confirmed with coronavirus.

SEOUL, Feb. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korea reported the first case of reinfection by the new coronavirus Saturday amid mounting concerns over the rapid rise in virus infections here.

A South Korean woman tested positive for COVID-19 a second time, even after being released from quarantine, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

The 73-year-old woman, who was diagnosed with the virus earlier in the month, was released from a hospital on Feb. 22 after making a full recovery.

                  • ....According to the authorities, a 73-year-old woman who was coronal 19 patients 25 days ago was reconfirmed after complete cure.

The patient was diagnosed with Corona 19 on the 9th of the month after living with his son (26 patients) and daughter-in-law (27 patients) who visited Guangdong Province, China.

After being quarantined at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital for medical treatment, he was discharged on the 22nd, but reported on the 27th that he had minor symptoms at the public health center. This patient is taken to a national isolation hospital.

Kwon said, “If it is normal, it will be able to defend itself when the virus is reinvaded by the formation of immunity such as antibodies while undergoing the virus.” ”He explained.

"There are also some opinions that some viruses may not be completely killed," he said. "There are some known cases of recurrences where the virus is amplified and confirmed again."

Kwon said, “Over 10 cases have been reported not only in Korea but also in China, and recently in Japan,
