For the first time, the new coronavirus has been detected in Norway. This was confirmed by a public health conference on Wednesday evening.

The Norwegian was infected in China and returned home this weekend. The person is now healthy, but in the home quarantine in his own home.

Five Norwegians recently in an infected area in Italy are now being tested for the new coronavirus.

The five are now isolated at home in Elverum.

They even contacted an emergency room in Norway after they had the flu symptoms, writes Eastlendingen.

    - They have been in an area in Italy where there is infection. When they got home, they contacted the emergency room just as well as told about the situation. Then we have made sure that they are now isolated and do not go outside the house. They are doing well according to the circumstances, says municipal superintendent Knut Skulberg in Elverum to the newspaper.

The samples have now been sent to Oslo, where they will be analyzed either at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health or at Oslo University Hospital.
    press Conference

The Public Health Institute (FHI) convenes a press conference on Wednesday evening about the situation related to the coronavirus.

It is not known what the press conference will specifically deal with.

One person has tested positive for coronavirus

    Published 26.02.2020

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) has today confirmed that a person in Norway has tested positive for coronavirus. The person is healthy.

The NIPH has confirmed that a person has tested positive for coronavirus. The person lives in Northern Norway, is healthy and has no symptoms of coronavirus disease. Following an individual assessment, samples were taken from this person. The person was tested after returning from one of the areas affected by the outbreak in China.

“Analyses of the test performed today show a weak positive result, while a previous analysis was negative. The analyses of the sample shows traces of coronavirus. The method of analysis is sensitive enough to detect inactive viruses,” explains Line Vold, Director of the Department of Infection Control and Preparedness at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

        Norway - 6

Norway raised its number of coronavirus cases to six after an employee at Oslo University Hospital's eye clinic was diagnosed with the virus on February 28.

The employee had recently visited northern Italy and had been to work on Monday and Tuesday. The employee had mild symptoms and was isolated at home, the hospital said. Efforts to track down who he might have gotten in touch with are ongoing.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (Folkehelseinstituttet, FHI) has introduced stricter quarantine rules for healthcare staff.

All people working in the healthcare sector who have travelled to areas with active spread of coronavirus must now remain in home quarantine for 14 days after returning to Norway, media including VG report on Monday.

FHI has said that the new rules are a direct reaction to an increase in infection numbers in Norway during the last few days.

At the time of writing, the number of confirmed cases in the Scandinavian country is 19. That includes 5 people who work at the Ophthalmology department at Ullev?l Hospital in Oslo.

A health worker infected with the virus worked at the department last week after getting infected in northern Italy.
