Daily COVID-19 update 19 May 2020
Hospital admissions for 34 patients due to COVID-19 were reported today (current or previous). 21 deaths were reported. Not all of the reported hospital admissions or deaths occurred within the last 24 hours. Some patients are reported later. For this reason, the figures are often supplemented with data from days in the past.
44,249 confirmed COVID-19 patients have been reported to RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment so far.
The figures are in line with the impression that the measures are working. Since not all COVID-19 patients are tested, the actual numbers in the Netherlands are higher than the numbers stated here.
Decrease in the number of sick people due to COVID-19
The number of people who have fallen ill due to the novel coronavirus in the Netherlands has been decreasing since the end of March. This is apparent from the decrease in the number of newly reported patients, hospital admissions, ICU admissions and deaths per day. The number of people who visit their GP because of symptoms that are consistent with the coronavirus is still decreasing. This is evident from figures provided by the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (Nivel).
The virological daily updates show that, despite a broader testing policy, the number of people who were tested due to symptoms remained around 30,000 in the last three weeks. The percentage of confirmed COVID-19 cases in these people who were tested is steadily decreasing. Last week this figure was 5%, but at the end of March, 29% of tests were positive for the coronavirus.
Percentage of people tested for COVID-19 who had a positive test result, reported by the virological laboratories. The dots indicate the percentage per day; the line shows a 7-day running average.
