The Monaco authorities have decided that a number of rules on social distancing can be relaxed in restaurants and cafes. As a result of the coronavirus circulating only “very weakly” in the Principality, as has been discovered through the testing of more than 35,000 residents and employees, the Government wants life to get back to normal as soon as possible.

After the adults, it is now the youngest to be tested. Monegasque children and residents under the age of 5 were screened for COVID-19 on the afternoon of June 3rd at the Grimaldi Forum. Volunteers carried out antibody tests on 125 children in the presence of a paediatrician. It seems to be a meagre figure since 1,500 children were expected to come, according to Gazette de Monaco.

    No new positive cases

No new positive cases were revealed in the Principality yesterday. The case figures, therefore, still stand at 99 people affected by the coronavirus, 90 of whom have recovered.

Out of 6,000 Monegasques and residents tested for coronavirus during the week beginning May 18, just under three percent gave a positive result.

The pinprick test was intended to find out if individuals had antibodies for the virus, in other words whether they had been infected without showing symptoms. Those who tested positive were seen by a doctor to check they had no current symptoms and an appointment was made for them to have a further test.

No-one among the 170-plus individuals was hospitalised. The pinprick tests continue next week at the Grimaldi Forum and Espace Leo Ferr? and should be completed by Tuesday June 2, from which day tests will be available for employees in the Principality.

The Prince’s Government has told representatives of the National Council that it has started implementing a system to test the population for coronavirus with the aim of gradually testing everyone in the Principality.

At the seventh meeting of the Covid-19 Joint Monitoring Committee, on Thursday, May 7, ministers and representatives of the elected body took stock of progress so far since the ending of lockdown in Monaco on Monday, May 4.

In a press statement after the meeting, the Government said that “the results are satisfactory.” Commercial outlets have successfully implemented measures such as social distancing since reopening on Monday.
